Our CSR at Dignity Kitchen 👍
We are thankful and grateful to be invited by Mr. Koh Seng Choon, the Executive Director and founder of Dignity Kitchen, to hold our 2023 CSR activity there on November 23, 2023.
Thanks to Mr. Koh for the meaningful insights and sharing on Dignity Kitchen. All of us was highly motivated and moved by the purpose driven business operations and the inspiring success story. We are grateful for the opportunity to interact with the staff and serve the needy.
Not forgetting to mention, the food offered at Dignity Kitchen are really Michelin standard, superlicious dishes like fish and chips, claypot rice, nasi lemak beef rendang, kolo mee...so so yummy that we are already planning to return for more 🙂
Most importantly, what impacted us are 3 key takeaways - 1) the transformative potential of turning thoughts/cause into reality. 2)counting every day as a blessing, 3) commit time for Dignity Day once a month.
This is our best CSR day! So inspiring and meaningful for CTES and our employees, we are planning our next visit as we depart …Dignity Kitchen, we will be back soon….: 😊 😉

How Skills Picked Up in NS Can Apply to the Commercial World
In all the years that we have been providing career counselling and coaching services, we have noticed and heard firsthand from our candidates that the skills they picked up in National Service (NS) have been extremely relevant to their professional lives.
Often deemed a rite of passage where boys become men, NS is the mandatory conscription and duty that every male citizen and Permanent Resident (PR) has to undergo upon turning 18 years old.
Even though some men recall their NS experiences as less than fond, NS undeniably does inculcate certain lifelong skills. These skills prepare men for commercial and professional aspects of their future, regardless of whether they decide to sign on as a regular or pursue other professions.
Here are some of the skills picked up from NS that we have seen to be transferable to an individual’s transition to the commercial world:

Happy Father's Day !
As we prepare to celebrate Father’s Day, it’s a good time to reflect and thank Dad on the valuable advice from dads that can apply not just to life, but to careers.
Melinda Gates is a businesswoman and philanthropist. She is co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Here is her sharing about the Essential Quality She Inherited from her father.
“The best advice Dad ever gave me was to keep asking bold questions and looking for their answers. He knew that curiosity transforms everyday obstacles into exciting challenges to be solved — and that once you have that perspective, possibilities become limitless. You can, quite literally, aim for the stars.”

In honor of Mother’s Day, we would like to share some of the top executives' sharing on their best career advice from their moms.
Mom out there, know that what you are doing is having an impact and making a difference.
Have a Happy Mother’s Day !
*Get outside your comfort zone*
Faizun Kamal says she’s not afraid to seek opportunities that make her feel uncomfortable because her mom always encouraged her to look for a job or project that would make her feel a little bit fearful or overwhelmed. “Her reasoning was when we did that we would push ourselves harder than others on the project, that our attention to detail would be greater, that in the end our results would be a product of hard work,” says Kamal, a franchise consultant at The Franchise Consulting Company.
Betty Ng, co-author of Po-Ling Power: Propelling Yourself and Others to Success, says her mom taught her the value of a mentor who could offer her a different perspective than her own. “One of the best pieces of advice from my mother that has served me through my career is to look for influence outside of your immediate community and social circles,” she says.

In CTES, we often kick-start our career preparation and search services with expert-led Character Discovery sessions. Why is this important as a first step? Self exploration is crucial as it gives us better insight to our interests, aptitudes, and work-related values. This knowledge can help us make suitable choices in terms of what career to embark on, what work environments we are likely to thrive in, our work management style and much more.
What is MBTI? How can it help in my career?

Gig Economy
Part I: What’s Happening in the Gig Economy
In part one of our series of articles on the gig economy, we share more about its background, the benefits it offers and the challenges it poses for both workers and businesses.
The gig economy has been around for many years. It started with freelancers from various industries and further expanded as ridesharing and food-delivery platforms began to rise in popularity. However, with the pandemic significantly disrupting traditional working arrangements in the past two years, many were forced to find alternate income sources and shift to remote working arrangements. Naturally, what followed was (and still is), the rapid growth of the gig economy.
