For decades, the foundations of cancer treatment have been surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and more recently, immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy refers to therapies that enlist and strengthen the power of a patient's immune system to attack tumors and CAR T-cell therapy is an example of immunotherapy.

*CAR stands for chimeric antigen receptor and the T cell is a type of white blood cell that is a part of your immune system.

CAR (chimeric antigen receptor)T-cell therapy uses the patient’s own immune cells to fight their cancer. Immune cells are isolated from blood, trained in a laboratory to be able to recognise cancerous cells and reinfused into the patient as a ‘living drug’, where they can seek and destroy cancer.

National University Cancer Institute of Singapore (NCIS) and
has more than 10 years experience in this field.

- Chairperson for the Leukemia Tumour Board of National University Cancer Institute of Singapore (2013-2020)
