๐ Happy Pride Month! ๐

โIn Patrick Ng Kah Onnโs Self Portrait with Friends, five figures are silhouetted by bright, decorative batik-like drapes...They wear mostly bright, fashionable clothes, enhancing the vibrancy of the scene. Yet it is an intimate one, as the circle of friends appear absorbed in their surroundings and each other.โ
Patrickโs works oftentimes invites viewers to contemplate the presumed fixity of identity markers such as gender and sexuality. This was highlighted in Painted Shadows: Highlights from a Q***r Perspective, an article written by our very own Kolektif Alumni so huge shoutout to them! ๐ฅฐ if youโre interested to learn more about it and other equally thought provoking pieces, do check out the article which is linked in our bio~

happening in conjunction with the Light to Night Singapore Festival, our condensed takeover takes place over these 3 Saturdays - 20 Jan, 27 Jan, and 3 Feb 2024. we welcome those that came before, and those who missed out on our previous event - all will be greeted with open arms โค๏ธ
The __ Project is youth initiative inspired by selected works in the See Me, See You: Part 2 exhibitionโan early video installation of southeast asia.
still not convinced? just take a look at the film photos taken from the previous takeover event - donโt you just wanna vibe with us ?? maybe learn a thing or two about early video installation of southeast asia (you just know itโll help you with content for that one essay coming your way in school ๐)

During this period of turmoil, our sympathies are with the innocent individuals who have fallen victim to the recent unjust and savage assaults of the IsraeliโPalestinian conflict.
These acts of ruthless terrorism have resulted in the suffering of civilians from both Israeli and Palestinian communities. We forget that the taking of lives stems beyond cold numbers - they might be someone's mother, or someone's child. Witnessing the tragic loss of life on both sides is a profoundly horrific experience that no one should have to endure.
Kolektif aligns ourselves with people worldwide who are striving for an end to violence and animosity - we hope for peace to be restored in the affected communities.

weโve got an inspiring ๐ K-RECOMMENDATIONS ๐ today!
โHi! Itโs me (Aizam) again! This edition is a special one, so Iโll recommend something different:
Travelling/exploring solo! ๐โ๏ธ
There's something truly liberating about setting off on your very own solo adventure. It's not just a journey; it's a chance to reconnect with yourself and the world in a whole new way. But Iโll be completely honest โ it IS daunting at first, but once you do it youโll never look back. And Iโm here to convince you why itโs the best thing ever, regardless if you choose to do it abroad, or take baby steps and do it back home here in Singapore:
1. Self-Discovery ๐ฑ๐๐ค: The ability to create the space and time to reflect on your thoughts, dreams, and desires. It's a profound opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth. I personally journal and people watch during my solo adventures abroad (both in Thailand and in Korea)
2. New Connections ๐ค๐๐ฌ: Contrary to what you might think, solo travel often leads to incredible connections with people from all walks of life. You're more approachable and open to meeting new friends when you're on your own. For the average introvert (like me) Iโve been able to meet some of the best-est people just by being by myself!
3. Empowerment ๐ช๐๐: Navigating unfamiliar places, language barriers, and unexpected challenges builds confidence and resilience. You'll surprise yourself with what you can handle. I remember on my flight back to Singapore just feeling energised, more than ever. It was a newfound sense of accomplishment.
If travelling abroad solo sounds really daunting, thatโs ok! Itโs because it is. Iโd still encourage you to think about trying to take baby steps at first. Perhaps try heading out and explore Singapore by yourself! Or you could come down to our Kolektif takeover and see what happens :-) (Iโll also be there, so you can ask me any questions about travelling/exploring solo if you have any!)โ
yโall heard the man! drop any questions in the comments and weโll see u 14 october at the 2023 kolektif takeover ๐ตโ๐ซ
