Wow - never quit!

On a client's request we added yet another color to our range of Paddle Guards. You could call it Lavender or light violet or so but the official color is PANTONE 2645C - quite pretty.

More boat trailers delivered and already put to proper use.

We delivered a few more boat trailers last Saturday that we fabricated for a client in Singapore - more deliveries to follow this week to complete the client's fleet.

Delivered in the morning and already in use - along with the client's praise for our workmanship - nice feedback (even though we are not surprised).

We fabricate trailers for power and leisure boats, too. This one was delivered today. Solid tires, frame hot dip galvanized, sturdy for heavy payload.

Something for the frugal paddler...

Just in time before the coming holiday we managed to install a customized canoe rack for a client and deliver cabinets for storing their vests and their paddles. Now the Lunar New Year can come.

I like it when the work week starts with some deliveries - getting the heavy lifting part out of the way first.
This time we delivered a fleet of aluminum OC canoe trolleys to a local client. Made of marine aluminum they withstand the corrosive climate and sea water much better than standard steel trolleys and
of course they are much lighter, hence easier to move around.

The outgoing year went black & white throughout. Let's make the New Year more colorful again for everyone!

With the circuit breaker making way to Phase 1 of loosening some restrictions, there is a silver lining at the horizon - at least for some of us.

Ocean Five is 10 years old this month. Not exactly bright times right now with that virus causing havoc around the world but we made it through 10 years and we will overcome this tough period too.

We changed how we make boat covers - for a reason.
Years ago we used to integrate narrow metal beams every 3 feet. The idea was to bend both ends down when tightening the strap so the beam would curve upwards to ensure rain water running off. In principle that worked well, however the metal beams were forced down with such force (talk about strong paddlers) that they did not curve up in the center anymore but sunk in, forming pools for rain to collect, turn into stagnant water and attract mosquito breeding.

Next we instead integrated very flexible plastic strips, again with the idea of pressing down the ends to get the strip bend upwards. Done correctly that worked very well, however between the integrated strips the tarp would still collapse preventing the rain from running off.

Also the plastic buckles would break easily, the small metal clips were a pain to feed the straps in - not much fun after 2 hours of serious water training.

Now we cut the tarp wider and we use stainless steel double D-rings instead of buckles. We have done away with the integrated beams, too. The straps and opposing D-rings are now only 2 feet apart. That creates a smooth, very even straight surface and when boats are parked in a slanted position the rain water runs off very well. The D-rings make loosening or tightening of the straps so much easier and faster, nothing can break or malfunction.

Another piece of good news for you - we save some cost in the process and can offer our covers at a lower price than before.

Final tip: when choosing a color for your cover, try and avoid pink or red. By sun exposure pink turns to grey and red turns to very light pink. Most other colors don't fade so easily.

Renewal of PUB licenses for dragon boats
Some dragon boat teams seem to face issues with the renewal of operating licenses for their dragon boats. Please note that PUB has called for a meeting on this matter. The meeting is scheduled for 16th January 2020 at the Marina Barrage and the representatives of SDBA and of all authorized dragon boat inspectors are invited to attend.
Ocean Five will be there too and we hope to get the clarifications you may be looking for. After the meeting we will inform all teams with BuK dragon boats of any relevant outcome that may concern their license renewal.
