It's a wrap for the "Automating Supply Chain Processes and Creating Value with AI" seminar, co-organised by SLA and Republic Polytechnic's Centre of Innovation for Supply Chain Management (COI-SCM) this afternoon.
The event was a fantastic opportunity to dive deep into the transformative power of AI in supply chain management. With enlightening presentations and engaging discussions, our attendees gained valuable knowledge on how automation can boost efficiency, reduce costs, and level up overall supply chain performance.
A highlight of the event was the sharing by Ryan Hoo from Call Lade Enterprises, an SLA member, on how they have successfully leveraged Generative AI to improve their operations. Their experience provided practical insights and demonstrated the real-world benefits of AI in logistics.
Huge shoutout to our speakers from COI-SCM, Edmund Chan, Friso Kluit and Derrick Lim, as well as everyone who showed up. The event's success was fueled by your active participation and vibrant energy!
Looking forward to keep pushing forward on our journey towards innovation and excellence in the logistics industry.

It is essential that each company ensures their drivers hold valid licenses with the correct classifications for their vehicles, including whether they are qualified to transport goods or operate specific types of vehicles. Specific types of goods, such as hazardous materials, refrigerated products, or oversized items, require drivers to have additional training to ensure safe and compliant transportation.
It is crucial to have proper licensing and conversion courses in place as new drivers need time to adapt to Singapore’s road conditions, rules, and driving culture. These processes ensure that they are adequately prepared to be on Singapore roads.
The Singapore Logistics Association encourages companies to support their drivers through this conversion process. By providing the necessary training and resources, companies can help ensure that drivers are well-prepared and qualified, enhancing overall road safety and operational efficiency.

SLA members are reminded that “Enforcement actions will be taken against errant motorists, companies and employers who do not comply with regulations, said the police.”
“We would also like to remind companies and employers that it is their responsibility to ensure that the people operating their motor vehicles have the necessary valid licences to do so,” added the police.

At this morning's Supply Chain Symposium organised by National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), our Chairman, Mr. Dave Ng, contributed to an engaging panel discussion on “Crafting a Sustainable Future”. The panel also featured Mr. Desmond Tan 陈国明, NTUC’s Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Loganathan Ramasamy, CEO of ST Logistics, and Mr. Joseph Chong, President of the Supply Chain Employees' Union, with the session moderated by A/P Huay Ling Tay, Deputy Director of SUSS Academy.
The discussion highlighted two critical issues:
(i) the intensifying manpower shortages in the logistics sector due to Singapore's declining fertility rate and restrictions on foreign labor, and
(ii) the growing demand from customers for sustainability reporting, which is increasing pressure on companies.
The consensus among the panelists was clear - embracing digital transformation and committing to sustainability practices are essential for companies to thrive in the future. These steps are not just for regulatory compliance but are crucial for the long-term resilience and success of the logistics industry. Companies are encouraged to utilise available support, such as the NTUC Company Training Committee Grant, short courses from The Logistics Academy, and resources like the Green Supply Chain Knowledge Hub and Logistics Sustainability Playbook that are accessible here: https://greensupplychainhub.sg/.
SLA is currently developing a program to assist our members in creating their own sustainability roadmaps, including enhancing the sustainability skillsets of our logistics workforce. We will share more details later this year. Stay connected for updates!
