Today we look at Tyler's recovery journey with Coach Daryl !
Back in 2022, I suffered a complete rupture of my right ACL while training for the rugby season. This devastating injury caused me to miss both the 2022 and 2023 schoolboy rugby seasons. As a young 14-year-old, such a major setback shattered my spirit for playing my favorite sport. However, Daryl, who had coached me for years before the injury, took me under his wing and guided me in the best approach to recovery.
After the surgery, Daryl designed rigorous yet confidence-boosting programs for me. These well-planned regimens not only helped me regain strength and muscle in my legs and body but also restored my confidence to play the sport I love. His unwavering motivation drew from his own experiences with major injuries and how he overcame them. Being a rugby player himself, I could relate to his experiences, which enabled me to visualize my own path back to playing and kept me determined during tough times.
Now in 2024, with Daryl's guidance and alongside my physio, Reggie, I've not only returned to the field at full strength for the 2024 season but also become a stronger, faster, and more determined player. Without Daryl’s expertise and motivation, I wouldn't be playing at the level I am today.
I owe my entire recovery and newfound strength to Daryl’s exceptional guidance and motivation. 👍👍

Ian shares his road to recovery and getting back on the field with us this week !!
I completely tore my ACL and partially tore my meniscus back in January 2022. It was my first game ever for my university, and it was difficult to come to terms with such a grave injury so early in the season. After several months of rehabilitation and post-operative physiotherapy, my physiotherapist recommended Daryl and Speed to aid in my recovery.
Initially skeptical, I decided to give it a try as I wanted to return to the field as soon as possible and accepted the offer. Daryl, also a rugby player and having experienced a similar injury, was extremely understanding and patient with the recovery process. He provided detailed explanations and rationales behind each exercise or movement we practiced. Daryl pushed me to take my recovery seriously, which ultimately greatly benefited my knee. I was back to running and jumping ahead of schedule.
However, there was still some fear about returning directly to the field. Daryl was patient and understanding, reassuring me that the process involved not only physical but also mental aspects. He emphasized that there should be no rush to regain full strength.
We worked together for the following months, focusing on personalized strength, agility, and fitness exercises before I fully resumed full-contact rugby training.
Before I knew it, I was back on the field for my first match, and my knee had no problems whatsoever. I owe much of my progress and recovery to Daryl and everyone at Speed who supported me throughout my journey.
As much as Daryl is an impeccable trainer and coach, he is also a great friend who supported me throughout my journey. The road to recovery would not have been as enjoyable or successful without Daryl and Speed.

Nine years ago, I struggled with knee, hip, and lower back pain while attempting to pursue my lifelong passion for running. Then came Daryl from Speed, who completely transformed my knees and hips, eliminating all pain—this despite two specialists recommending knee surgery! Now, I run marathons pain-free. Daryl's attentive approach, tailored to my unique requirements and capabilities, truly sets him apart. That's why I've been seeing him every week for nine years! As he says, "trust the process." I cannot recommend Daryl highly enough.

After sustaining my third wrist injury, which once again sidelined my golf training, I turned to Daryl for help in building up my strength and fitness. Despite the challenges of my injury, he crafted a personalized program tailored to my specific needs, always prioritizing my well-being and ensuring a pain-free workout experience. My sessions with Daryl have always been fun and safe, as he knows exactly when to push me and where my limits lie. I never have to worry about being sore right before a competition, as Daryl takes care of that for me.
Thanks to his unwavering dedication and meticulous attention to detail, I not only regained my strength but also returned to golf fitter and stronger than ever before. His expertise and commitment have been instrumental in my journey to recovery and achieving my fitness goals. I couldn't have asked for a better trainer to guide me through this challenging time. Even now, almost two years after returning to competitive golf, I still train with Daryl every single week, pain-free!

Back to Base 2.0
Starting 1st May through to June, we will cycle back to our hypertrophy phase with the intent of increasing muscle size and gaining additional mass, prioritizing volume over intensity. This phase also aids in conditioning the joints, ligaments, and tendons, enabling safe ex*****on of movements throughout their full range of motion. We will also control the pace of repetitions, prolonging the time our muscles are under tension to promote growth and build stability in the connective tissues.

Back in December 2021, I tore the ACL in my left knee completely and I was desperate to seek a non-operative rehabilitation plan. I had dreams of qualifying for an international karate competition in May 2022, hence the tight rehabilitation timeline to get back into training and competing in 2 months. Fortunately my physio, Reggie, introduced me to Speed and Daryl.
Having undergone ACL reconstruction for my right knee the previous year, I was apprehensive about the rehabilitation process due to the tight timeline. Thankfully, Daryl was there to support and guide me throughout the entire journey. As an athlete himself, he could empathise with my frustrations and understood the challenges I faced. His patience and encouragement motivated me and continue to do so until today.
Despite being unfamiliar with Karate, Daryl took the time to understand the intricacies of the sport, including the different techniques that I needed to perform in Karate. Every PT session was meticulously tailored to train and prepare my body for these difficult movements.
When I eventually returned to play Touch Rugby my knee struggled to keep up due to the dynamic nature of the sport. Every training session and match was frustrating and painful as my knee kept giving way. I started to doubt if I could ever play Touch again without resorting to surgery. However, by the end of 2022 and after months of dedicated rehab with Daryl, I was able to finally play Touch confidently and comfortably (without hearing my knees pop 😵💫)!!
I owe my progress and achievements over the past 2 years to Daryl’s unwavering support and expertise 🙌💪🏻🥋🏉

After an initial detailed fitness assessment with Coach Zee, we discussed what I wanted to improve on such as my vertical jumps. Coach Zee designed a fitness program for us to work on twice a week which includes plyometric exercises to improve my jumping technique and height. He has also taught me how to land properly which is crucial in injury prevention in my sport.
Overall I have learnt many new exercises with Coach Zee and he is very encouraging and motivates me to step out of my comfort zone to help me achieve my fitness goals. He incorporates fun mini games into our workouts too! 🔥💯
