⏰ It's Monday! ⏰
Embrace the start of a fresh week with the transformative power of gratitude. It is more than just a mindset. It is a beacon that illuminates the positive amidst life's challenges and reminds us of the abundance that surrounds us.
Wishing you a week filled with gratitude! 💪🏻✨
From the land of Gaza, we have seen images of despair and sufferings. These heart-wrenching images we witness deeply move us. It tugs at our hearts, stirring profound emotions and inspiring us to act with compassion and solidarity.
In this spirit of empathy and care, we respect and acknowledge Singapore's dedicated efforts to combat radicalisation, yet we recognise the challenges in identifying subtle behavioural shifts. PPIS President, Mdm Hazlina Abdul Halim, and our committed professionals believe that addressing this gap requires heartfelt and extensive awareness campaigns, along with thoughtful and inclusive training for families, educators, and community leaders.
We understand the importance of a coordinated response from communities and schools to ensure the safety and well-being of all. We deeply value the role of outreach programmes, such as our PPIS Student Care Centres, which provide crucial support to parents and create spaces for nurturing meaningful discussions within families.
Together, with empathy and mutual respect, we can build a community that is vigilant, compassionate, and united in our efforts to safeguard our youth and foster a safer, more understanding society.
📰 Referring to the two individuals who were issued Restriction Orders (RO) by the Internal Security Act (ISA), Malay/Muslim organisations (MMOs) cite early intervention, family and community support as crucial in addressing radical influences.
The President of the Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM), Mr. Nassar Mohd Zain, stated that extremist groups prey on youth due to their susceptibility to manipulation and influence. He wants the public to know more about the advantages and disadvantages of social media.
Singapore Muslim Women's Association (PPIS) shared a similar view, stating on social media that such cases remind us that radicalisation can affect anyone. PPIS emphasised the importance of expressing support and empathy in a respectful, legal, and peaceful manner, particularly regarding the atrocities in Gaza. PPIS remains committed to supporting families, especially women, and youth, through various services and programmes.
PPIS Oasis joined fostering agencies Boys’ Town, Epworth Community Services, Muhammadiyah Association and The Salvation Army at the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s (MSF) Fostering Open House last Saturday.
Foster parents, including Mdm Nur Khairina and Mr Abdul Malik who are managed by Oasis, and a former foster youth share inspiring fostering stories and first-hand experiences from their fostering journeys, the challenges faced and the heartfelt moments that make fostering all worthwhile.
We thank Senior Parliamentary Secretary Eric Chua for hosting us.

These cases serve as stark reminders that radicalisation can affect anyone.
While we mourn the atrocities in Gaza, PPIS believes it is important for us to express our support and empathise respectfully, legitimately, and peacefully.
PPIS remains steadfast in our commitment to supporting families, particularly women and youth, through a range of services and programmes, including counselling.
Early intervention and support is crucial and families play an important role during these tough times.
Let us look out for one another and support each other. Seek help, you don’t have to be alone.

We welcomed Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How earlier today to join our students’ school holiday programme at PPIS 7oaks Student Care Centre Bedok (SCCB).✨
Organised by DBS, the financial literacy programme aims to educate students aged 4 to 12 years old about finances, and help them to cultivate good financial habits from a tender age. These are designed using the bank’s financial literacy curriculum for children, and are run with the help of volunteers from DBS People of Purpose, the bank’s employee volunteerism movement.
SMS Tan, who is also the Lead Adviser for SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Bedok, operated by Filos Community Services, was received by PPIS President Mdm Hazlina Abdul Halim, CEO-Designate Mdm Aidaroyani Adam, Assistant Vice President of DBS People of Purpose Ms Koh Ling Yee, Assistant Vice President of DBS People of Purpose, and Community Engagement Executive of Filos Community Services Mr Emmanuel Ng.
We are grateful for collaborations with community partners to create innovative and productive school holiday programmes for our SCCB students. Here’s to more collaborative opportunities to equip young minds with essential life skills!⚡
📰 On 17 June 2024, Berita Harian featured PPIS Oasis - Centre for Fostering in a photo spread showcasing the Art and Play Therapy programme. This trauma intervention approach is unique to PPIS’ fostering services.
PPIS Oasis Senior Centre Manager, Noor Aaqilah Abdul Latiff, shared that the Art and Play Therapy programme allows children to express themselves in a non-verbal manner, as they may struggle with verbal expression. This programme helps children process their trauma safely and build emotional resilience by learning coping skills.
Furthermore, PPIS Oasis incorporates Art and Play Therapy to create a safe and effective space for these children to heal and thrive. Foster care workers at PPIS Oasis work closely with their in-house Certified Therapeutic Play Practitioner to identify foster children whose needs are more suitable for Art and Play Therapy intervention, as an alternative to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
