We are honoured to share that Business China Chairman Lee Yi Shyan has been appointed as an Economic Advisor to the Shandong Provincial People’s Government, China on 28 August 2024.

The appointment recognises Business China’s role in bridging Singapore and China to foster better relations. We will continue to facilitate meaningful economic exchanges through our programmes and activities for business leaders.

Chairman personally received the Letter of Appointment from Shandong Governor Zhou Naixiang at the Economic Advisory Council meeting held in Qingdao.

Chairman also shared on Singapore’s experience in developing and implementing a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy, and its governance framework.

Business China Chairman Lee Yi Shyan spoke at the Integrating Worldwide and Serving Global Business Forum on 24 August 2024. Held as a key activity of the China Europe International Business School‘s (CEIBS) 30th Anniversary Celebration & Alumni Reunion in Singapore, the forum provided insights for Chinese businesses seeking expansions into Southeast Asia and beyond.

Highlighting Singapore's excellent infrastructure and its international and regional connectivity, Chairman Lee encouraged the attending CEIBS alumni to use Singapore as a starting point for such undertakings.

通商中国主席李奕贤先生于2024年8月24日在 “融入世界，服务全球” 论坛上发表演说。此论坛是中欧国际工商学院三十周年庆典暨校友团聚（新加坡）的主要活动之一，为有意到东南亚和其他地区拓展业务的中国企业提供洞见。

In this three-day immersive programme, participants got a chance to learn about Chinese history, Singapore Chinese culture, and contemporary China.

From visiting heritage zones in the city, going on a trail with Samsui women, to lessons on China, as well as visits to leading businesses Huawei Singapore and Bank of China Singapore, BCYK participants gained a multitude of learnings and insights.

We hope this is the beginning of their journey to becoming China-ready and we can’t wait for the next thrilling chapter in 2025!

😎 Our guests came with much enthusiasm, and not even a short downpour could dampen their spirits! The dinner was also eventful with guests walking away with tournament awards, lucky draw prizes, and smiles. 🏆

Business China is proud to be a supporter and partner of Qixi Fest 2024, with its activities held in early August! The traditional Qixi festival used to be celebrated in Singapore before the 1970s with festivities grander than Chinese New Year.

Revived in 2023 by Heritage Defender Ms Lynn Wong, with passionate cultural researchers and community advocates, the festival honours the rich traditions of craftsmanship, storytelling, and community spirit.

💪 As a strong advocate of bilingualism and biculturalism, Business China supported the Qixi Fest, encouraging our youth to contribute to sustaining our local cultural heritage and serving the communities at large.

It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Ms Lynn Wong and her team this year! 🤝

🎉 Wow, what a day at the inaugural Youth Interns Exchange Scheme (YES) Forum with over 100 attendees! 🌟

Three YES Singapore youths - Charmaine, Dongyue and Brian had a completely captive audience with their diverse stories and tips.

Charmaine shared on navigating different team cultures, interactions with her intern peers; Dongyue gave a glimpse into his internship with the events, people, and products that had inspired him; and Brian highlighted the valuable connections he had built during the internship.

🌟 Everyone gained a multitude of insights engaging with the YES interns from both Singapore and China, as well as representatives from the YES hosting companies. 💼

🎉 Our Youth Series session, "Defending Local Chinese Heritage", was successfully held at Kong Chow Wui Koon on 19 July 2024! We were honoured to have Ms Lynn Wong share her inspiring and transformative journey behind preserving and promoting local Chinese culture and heritage.

Ms Wong is well recognised for her heritage efforts, helping numerous organisations amplify the impact of their rich histories by curating memorable exhibitions and organising festivals that engage intergenerational audiences.

The event attracted more than 50 enthusiastic participants, including students and young working adults. Attendees toured the Kong Chow Wui Koon and enjoyed a martial arts performance by Ms Lynn Wong. Her sharing also prompted much curiosity from the youths, as they asked many questions before the event ended with an exciting quiz.

Business China Chairman Lee Yi Shyan gave a bilingual speech at the 66th Founder’s Day of Maris Stella High School on 19 July 2024 as the Guest of Honour.

As an alumnus of the school, Chairman Lee encouraged the attending 590 Primary 6 and Secondary 4 students to set ambitious goals, be diligent, share their success with others, and in time to come, become leaders of Singapore’s success story.

He was presented with a painting of the iconic Maris Stella school gate, titled Echoes of Heritage, which is in line with the celebration theme—Honouring our Past, Inspiring our Future.

通商中国主席李奕贤于2024年7月19日在海星中学66周年创校纪念日上以贵宾身份进行双语演讲。

李主席作为校友，鼓励在场的590名小六和中四学生设定远大的目标、勤奋努力、与他人分享成功，并在未来成为新加坡成功故事的领导者。

他获赠了一幅海星中学标志性的校门画作，画作名为 Echoes of Heritage (传承的回声），与庆祝活动的主题 “铭记过去，放眼未来” 相呼应。

On 18 July 2024, CEO Ho Chee Hin gave opening remarks at the Strengthening Integration at the Workplace sharing session co-organised by Business China and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - MCCY.

He highlighted the importance of effective collaboration between local and international staff for business success, as diversity serves to offer a competitive advantage.

Mr Ho also urged businesses to further enhance workplace integration through increasing cultural awareness, and participating in workplace inclusivity programmes organised by the National Integration Council and partners.

Early in July, the Business China Go East Team headed to Shanghai to meet interning youths and their companies in Shanghai.

We kickstarted the trip with a delightful YES engagement event in Shanghai, co-hosted with SingCham Shanghai.

We visited the Suzhou Industrial Park, Hangzhou, and Beijing, where the youths have been enthusiastically immersing themselves in local culture, exploring new places and new things, and establishing meaningful friendships! 🌍

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive as the youths express deep appreciation for the opportunity to broaden their horizons. They are having a blast while interning in China, leaving their footprints in this culturally rich landscape. 🙌

Business China CEO Ho Chee Hin attended the 5th Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperative Council (SSCCC) meeting held on 9 July 2024, co-chaired by Singapore Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law Mr Edwin Tong and the Shanghai Mayor Mr Gong Zheng.

The SSCCC meeting took stock of the Singapore-Shanghai collaboration in various areas such as the digital economy, urban governance, and people-to-people exchanges.

Business China is proud to be contributing to the people-to-people exchanges between Singapore and Shanghai through the Youth Interns Exchange Scheme (YES), which has to date facilitated the internships of over 20 Singapore students in Shanghai since it was launched in the second half of 2023.

On 3 July 2024, Chairman Lee Yi Shyan spoke at the signing ceremony between Winning International Group and Hengli Group.

He pointed out that being an international trade and shipping hub, Singapore has helped drive the development of global trade, as well as industrial and urban growth in other port cities around the world. The story of Winning International Group is part of this shipping history and provides top-notch logistics and transportation services to its customers today from its Singapore headquarters. 🛳

The Business China Youth Forum (BCYF) is held annually in tandem with the FutureChina Global Forum (FCGF). With the motto "By Youth, For Youth," this forum is organised by a dedicated group of enthusiastic young individuals, who curate discussions and sharing sessions with industry experts and academia on trending topics relevant to youth, drawing hundreds of young participants to the hybrid event each year.

This year, BCYF will take place on October 18, 2024 (Friday), at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre. We are actively seeking Organising Committee members to help shape this year's forum. Positions available include Chairpersons, and roles in the Business Development, Programme, Publicity, and Operations Team.

From 23 to 26 June, Business China Chairman Mr Lee Yi Shyan led a 20-strong business delegation to Chongqing in conjunction with the official trip by the Minister for Communications and Information & Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity Mrs Josephine Teo and Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information & National Development Mr Tan Kiat How.

The delegation visited key enterprises and projects in Chongqing such as the China-Singapore Chongqing Multi-Modal Distribution and Connectivity (DC) Centre, CapitaLand Raffles City Chongqing, Guocoland’s 18T project, and SERES new vehicles factory. On the trip, Singapore businesses had the opportunity to meet and engage with various business counterparts in Chongqing.

The delegation also included Business China Board Director Mr David Su, and CEO Mr Ho Chee Hin.

6月23至26日，通商中国主席李奕贤先生率领20人商务代表团到访重庆，配合通讯及新闻部长兼主管智慧国计划及网络安全事务部长杨莉明女士和通讯及新闻部兼国家发展部高级政务部长陈杰豪先生的正式访问。

代表团参观了重庆的重点企业和项目，如中新(重庆)多式联运示范基地、重庆凯德来福士广场、国浩·18T (十八梯)项目以及赛力斯汽车超级工厂等。在这次访问中，新加坡企业有机会与重庆的各商业伙伴会面和接触。

代表团成员还包括董事徐传陞先生以及总裁何致轩先生。

In June 1936, Bank of China (BOC) established its Singapore branch. Today, on 14th June 2024, it celebrated its 88th anniversary and Business China is honoured to be invited to join in the celebrations.

At the RMB Internationalisation and China-Singapore Financial Cooperation Forum held in conjunction with the celebrations, Business China Chairman Mr Lee Yi Shyan delivered opening remarks, commenting on BOC’s unique and active role in these 88 years as one of the oldest financial institutions in Singapore.

BOC has been a strong supporter of Business China, such as for the FutureChina Global Forum and for Singapore youth engagement, and we look forward to continuing the strong partnership! 🤝
