Community Cultural Dimensions
CCD aims to promote professional arts practices with communities in Singapore and the region.
In 2010, Community Cultural Development (Singapore), or CCD (Singapore) for short, started out in the Substation as an informal web-based collective of artists and practitioners that met on a periodic for workshops and sharing sessions to learn about the practice of arts in the community from each other. The website also sought to archive and document CCD-related activities in Singapore. The sessi

Hi everyone,
As some of you know, I have been working with various orgs. who work with seniors, through projects on creative dance and art. Over the last 10 years or more, there have been more interest in senior arts engagement. However, feedback from the ground of the social sector indicate that there is a need to rethink the quality of our arts engagement, and to ‘up the game’ for ourselves as practitioners.
This is why I initiated this conference on Geragogy and the Arts for 2024, which is co-organised by NAFA, Centre for Lifelong Education. It hopes to bring together experienced Singaporean artist-facilitators who have dedicated 5-10 years of arts practice in response to the seniors they work with. The conference has 2 parts : (1) A set of video presentations, much like conference presentations of about 10 mins. (2) Onsite practice-based workshops on 29th June at NAFA. The focus of this conference is NOT academic. Emphasis is placed on the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of practice.

Community Cultural Dimensions – Arts for Communities Arts for Communities
Hi everyone, my latest publication, with thanks to The Necessary Stage and members of Theatre for Seniors!
'A Decade of Theatre for Seniors: A Journey of Aesthetics and Innovation in Later Life', is a study which examines the Theatre for Seniors (TFS) programme, started by The Necessary Stage in 2009. Written by Applied Arts Researcher Dr. Felicia Low, this study asserts that in later life, aspects of aesthetics and innovation are relevant and all the more important as past roles in life recede. Written based on the person-centered framework for arts practices with communities, this study presents the collective wisdom of senior participants through interviews, which describe and assert for growth in the personal, social, cognitive and cultural dimensions of later life.

Join Dr. Felicia Low (Community Cultural Dimensions) for a discussion about the scope and extent of work needed to conduct research across different types of programmes, organisations and types of communities. She will be referring to her own past projects and experiences to highlight aspects of applicability and practice.
By the end of the session, there should be more clarity on the difference between programme evaluation, pedagogical research and impact study research, and the extent of resources needed to complete each type of research.
Hi everyone, just dropping in to elaborate on the Research for What? session. It is open to artist-facilitators who work with various communities and institutions like schools, etc. More so in the near future, institutions and funders want the artist to substantiate their programmes through 'research'. However, what this 'research' looks like, and how can the artist get access to such research resources is not clear. This is a beginning session where I hope to use some of my own examples, and also discuss with those who attend what questions or challenges you may have in substantiating their programmes - I won't have all the answers, but I am hoping to consolidate some concerns and challenges the ground faces and chart some means of extending resources to the ground. So do register if you're interested to join this discussion: https://bit.ly/CCD_RFW

Research for What??
For arts practitioners who teach and work in schools and with communities.
Research about arts practices with communities has become a buzz word among institutions and artist-facilitators. It holds the promise of programme validation and associated funding support for the future. Research however comes in different shapes and sizes, depending on the overall agenda of the programme or project.
