Director-General of Education Ms Liew Wei Li launched the last two Special Education (SPED) Teaching and Learning Syllabuses last month, completing the seven syllabuses that form the SPED national curriculum.
The latest and final additions are for Numeracy and Physical Education. The syllabuses for the other SPED learning domains – Social and Emotional Learning, Communication and Language, Daily Living, Vocational Education, and Visual Arts – have been progressively rolled out from 2021.
Together, these syllabuses outline essential knowledge and skills that students need, and provide a blueprint for students with diverse disabilities to achieve independent living, continual learning and contribute meaningfully to society.

Like father, like son. Working during the school holidays gave lecturer Ian Tan skills that he put to use when he started working as an adult. He gives this and other examples of why casual work stints can be enriching, including how his son’s holiday job inspired his choice of polytechnic course.
Why I encouraged my kids to take up part-time work There’s no better way to learn about the workings of the real world, says parent writer Ian Tan – this will also build their resilience and teach them about the value of work.

More than just a day, Total Defence is a way of life 🗣👨🏻🚒⛑ Take a look at the ways our Uniformed Group (UG) students are preparing to do their part for Singapore.
🆘 In an emergency, every helping hand counts. The National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC) provides all its Secondary 3 students the chance to choose from Specialisation Courses like Urban Search and Rescue, Medical Response, and Fire Safety. In the Marine Fire and Rescue Specialisation Course, for example, NCDCC cadets get to board a Singapore Civil Defence Force marine vessel to understand marine firefighting, learn water rescue methods, and hear from SCDF marine firefighters on what it takes to keep Singapore’s waters safe. These experiences help them know just what to do in emergencies.
😷 Need first aid quickly? St John Singapore (SJB) not only trains its students in first aid and home nursing skills, but also connects them with peers from Malaysia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. SJB cadets joined this year’s Asia-Pacific Youth Competition, where they worked as a team to treat casualties and patients in highly realistic environments. SJB cadets also gained insights into professional emergency services by visiting the Hong Kong St John Ambulance facilities to learn more about their operational ambulance fleet.
💝 Total Defence is also: Caring for the vulnerable and needy, and thinking of ways to improve their lives. The Girls' Brigade Singapore does this in their biennial Low Guat Tin Challenge, which inspires Girls to create innovative solutions to support vulnerable communities in Singapore. Using mediums such as poems, songs, and videos, they develop practical ideas to address community issues.
Celebrating graduation season with memories that will last a lifetime 🥹
