Despite entering the workforce early due to her family's tight finances, alumna and , Vivian Chua showcased such exceptional competence that HP extended job offers to her on two separate occasions.
However, upon realising that there was a glass ceiling to her career advancement as she was not a university graduate, she enrolled in a two-year part-time marketing degree course at the SIM-Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University.
From then on, the sky was the limit for Vivian, who took on leading roles in Business Development, Product Management, Channel Marketing and many more for the next two decades at HP. Now the Head of Services and Solutions for Greater Asia at HP and a SIM Board Member, Vivian Chua looks back at her journey and advises the next generation of learners.

Ms Vivian Chua, a tech enthusiast, pursued her passion for IT and business despite financial constraints. After enrolling in a part-time marketing degree programme at SIM-RMIT University, she balanced work and studies, gaining valuable skills and knowledge. Today, she is the head of Services and Solutions for Greater Asia at HP, exemplifying the transformative power of education and continuous learning. She also gives back to SIM as a valued board member, contributing her expertise to guide and support the institution's mission.
At the SIM-University at Buffalo (UB) programme, Dr James Goh took ownership of his education, even importing a sheep's brain to better understand neuroconnections. This hands-on approach, supported by SIM-UB's progressive learning environment, empowered him to pursue his passion for psychology and ultimately earn a doctorate from Harvard Business School. His journey showcases the transformative power of experiential learning. Drawing from his experiences, he gives back through mentorship and youth development in various community initiatives.
