🍎 Appleland 35th Graduation Concert Ceremony

It is our first concert back at the auditorium since 2019 and also the day to celebrate our Kindergarten 2 students’ graduation! 🎓

From Playgroup to Kindergarten 2, our little stars dazzled the audience with their vibrant costumes, infectious smiles and dance talent. Our enrichment programmes, Chinese Class Fun and Music Octave students also showcased their drama skit and music performance.

To the Class of 2023, congratulations on graduating from Appleland Playhouse! May your new chapter be filled with success and joy, and may the memories made in Appleland resonate in your hearts for years to come. ❤️

[Kindergarten 2]

Welcome to The K2 Clinic! 🏥

Our Kindergarten 2 learners engaged in an imaginative play related to healthcare and medical scenarios at their dramatic corner. Dressing up in PPE, doctor, nurse, and dentist uniforms, and acting out in their respective roles, they were encouraged to learn about healthcare and medical practices in a fun and interactive way. They also shared some of the experiences they had before when they are sick, and their knowledge on tools and equipments that they are familiar with. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Through the role-play, they gained a better understanding of the human body and the various types of medical equipment that are often used (such as stethoscope, thermometer, syringes and more). 🩺💉

Clinic role play is not only fun for the children but also serves as a valuable learning experience and help alleviate potential feats related to doctor visits!

[Nursery 2: Food Activity - Fruit Salad]

Last month, our N2 learners made fruit salad in class with a variety of fruits and yoghurt flavours!

They picked the fruits they like, cut them into smaller pieces, and mixed them with their preferred yoghurt.

What a tasty way to explore the world of fruits!

Our students dressed up in their swimsuits to school for their beach party theme celebration! 🏖️

The infants enjoyed their sand play and outdoor water play for the preschoolers 💦 Check out the adorable pictures of them against our sandy beach backdrop!

🎞️ We also gathered together to watch a movie in our cosy pajamas, brought our soft toys, pillows and blankets, and snacked on sandwiches and popcorn.

To all the little dreamers, artists, explorers and future leaders, may your days be filled with laughter, love, and endless possibilities!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节快乐! 🥮🌕

We came together last week for Mid-Autumn Festival celebration and enjoyed various cultural activities!

First we were introduced to how the Moon Festival came about and the common traditions associated to it. After that, we lit up our lanterns and carried them around for the lantern walk.🏮Back in our classroom, we got to taste delicious mooncakes 🥮 and pomelo with our friends! What a joyful celebration filled with activities. ☺️

[Kindergarten 1 & 2]

Our Kindergarten students had a wonderful and culturally enriching experience last week at the Singapore Youth Opera Showcase 2023.

Showcasing the young opera performers and to promote Chinese opera in Singapore, our students got to watch and appreciate the traditional characteristics of Chinese opera.

[Kindergarten 1: Planets in the Solar System (Skit) 🌍🌞🪐💫]

For this term’s theme, Earth, the K1 students performed a skit and role-played as planets and the Sun.

They further explored the solar system and learned about the unique qualities of the different planets.

Through role-playing, we help build the children’s stage confidence, communication skills, creativity in expression, and teamwork.

[Kindergarten 1 & 2: Vision Screening 👁️]

Our Kindergarten students have their vision checked every year in our preschool to help detect any vision issues they might have early.

Myopia rates are increasing globally, especially due to increased exposure to screen time. Therefore to maintain good eye health, it is important to practice good eye care habits such as:

- Spending more time outdoors.
- Ensure there is adequate lighting when reading or writing.
- Place books or screens at least 30-50cm away from eyes.
- Limit screen time (Screens are not recommended for children below 18 months and no more than 1 hour a day for preschoolers.)

If you or your child are experiencing vision problems or if myopia runs in your family, it is essential to schedule regular eye exams with an optometrist for a comprehensive eye examination and appropriate management.

[Nursery 2: Cooking Activity -
Vegetarian Pasta 🍝]

It’s cookery lesson in class today for our N2 students! This month, they will be discovering different types of plants, not just the way they look but also how they taste like.

They made delicious spaghetti today for lunch using plant-based ingredients, such as tomato, carrot, mushroom, onion, broccoli.

As the children participated in the process of cooking, they were all willing to try the vegetables that they are usually picky of, and some even wanted more servings! This is great way to promote healthy eating, even at home. 😊

[June 2023 Outing: River Wonders 🐟]

We explored the River Wonders wildlife park and observed many river fishes and animals, such as manatees and river otters, swimming in the freshwater aquariums!

One of the highlights was meeting the giant pandas, Kai Kai and Le Le (Jia Jia was resting) 🐼 We managed to catch them out and about, munching on bamboo leaves and lazing around.

[June Outings: Kin Yan AgroTech Farm 🌱]

Our first outing in June is to Kim Yan AgroTech Farm!

We toured around the farm where they grow wheatgrass, pea sprouts, cactus, aloe vera, pandan, mushrooms and many more!

After the tour, we touched and feel the aloe vera and wheatgrass, tasted 5 different kinds of mushrooms cooked by the farmers and grew pea sprouts.

So excited to taste our own pea sprouts when they are ready to be harvest! 😄

[Kindergarten 1 & 2: Myopia Campaign Talk 👁️]

To encourage our children to adopt healthy habits on myopia care and prevention, we have invited the Singapore National Eye Centre to come down for a talk about Myopia, to learn about our eyes, what is myopia and how we can prevent it.

About half the children in Singapore have myopia (also known as short-sightedness) by the time they are 12 years old. Parents can help to delay their child’s onset and progression of myopia by instilling good eye care habits when they are young.

Here are some of the good eye care habits you can share with your child:
- Spending more time outdoors
- Make sure there is adequate lighting when reading and hold the book at least 30cm away from the eyes
- To limit screen time/ take breaks and the screen should be at least 50cm away from eyes
- Get your children’s eyes checked annually

This year we held our very first Mother’s Day Tea Time for mummies to spend some special time with their children in school, sipping and munching on delicious treats prepared by the teachers! They were also presented with performances and Mother’s Day cards by their children, and carnation flowers as a gift!

[Nursery 1: SEA Aquarium 🐠]

Today we went to SEA Aquarium to explore the different types of fishes and look at their habitats. We got to touch sea stars and spotted a few familiar fishes we have learned in class!

[Nursery 2] Science Centre Singapore

The N2 children went on an excursion to Singapore Science Centre to see the insects they have learned in their Term 1 theme, Insects.

They spotted many insects outdoors such as butterflies, dragonflies, pond skaters, and more. After their outdoor learning session they enjoyed the cool air conditioning inside the Science Centre and were full of excitement exploring the other exhibits.

The N1 children went on an excursion to KidsStop to gain hands-on learning for their Term 1 theme, All About Me.

The had lots of fun at the sensory play exhibits and got to experience many new things through sight, hearing and touch.
