👉 Sinus spray has a quick effect, helping to improve the condition of the swollen nasal mucosa. At the same time, the drug helps inflammation and significantly reduces secretions.
👉 After the drug pe*****tes the nasal mucosa, it will have the effect of causing the nasal cavities to expand. Thanks to that, the mucus, pus as well as viruses and bacteria will be pushed out more conveniently.

⛔️CONSEQUENCES OF SINUSTIS - DID YOU KNOW?
👉 Sore throat
Purulent fluid containing bacteria and viruses running down the throat will cause throat infections and pharyngitis. Nasal discharge continuously flows down the throat with sore throat, causing the patient to have a prolonged cough that does not go away for a long time.
👉 Consequences of sinusitis
Purulent fluid from the nose and sinuses flows down the throat causing sore throat
👉 Ear infections
Because the sinuses are connected to the ears, when the sinuses are infected, pus will spread to the ears. People with sinusitis often have complications of ear infections, especially children (because the eustachian tube in children is short and horizontal, so pus can easily flow in). Otitis media often causes fever, ear swelling, and even perforation of the eardrum, causing deafness if not treated properly.
👉 Bronchitis
Maxillary sinusitis and ethmoid sinusitis often cause bronchitis complications. The patient does not have a stuffy nose, no headache, but coughs a lot, spits up sputum, sometimes even blood, and has a slight fever in the afternoon.
👉 Asthma
Sinusitis easily causes negative effects for people with asthma. Sinusitis makes it difficult for the patient to breathe.
👉 Eye damage
Eye damage is one of the consequences of sinusitis. Purulent fluid in the sinuses affects the eye sockets, causing orbital inflammation, eyelid abscesses, lacrimal sac inflammation, optic neuritis... Complications in the eyes are easy to occur because the front of the orbit is the maxillary sinus, Inside is the ethmoid and sphenoid sinus, and above is the frontal sinus.
👉 Consequences of sinusitis
Sinusitis can cause eye damage, brain inflammation
👉 Meningitis
If sinusitis is not treated, it will cause widespread inflammation of the brain base and surrounding tissues. Bacterial attacks on meningitis cause damage, even death. Signs of meningitis are headache, fever, nausea, neck tension, stiffness.
👉 Brain abscess
Inflammation that damages the meninges can affect the cerebral cortex, especially the brain and frontal lobe abscesses. Brain abscess, frontal lobe is very dangerous.
👉 Bone Complications
Bacteria caused by sinusitis can spread through the bloodstream, affecting the frontal, skull, and temporal bones. Inflammation causes pain, abscess formation. Under the inflamed bone, pus can be seen in the bone, under the hard meninges. Infected bones are difficult to treat. The usual treatment is long-term intravenous injection

Steps to use nasal spray correctly:
Prepare nasal spray, physiological saline, tissues.
1️⃣ Hand hygiene: Before touching your nose and mouth, wash your hands with soap and water, then dry your hands with a clean towel. If soap and water are not available, wash with an antiseptic solution.
2️⃣ Before spraying the nose, it is necessary to wash and clear the nose: Wash the nose by instilling physiological saline into the nose, to thin the mucus, then blow the nasal mucus and dirt into a tissue. Clearing the nose has the effect of making the drug pe*****te more into the nasal mucosa, increasing the effect of the nasal spray.
3️⃣ Nasal spray: Shake the bottle gently before spraying (pay attention to the information on the package to see if it is necessary to shake), open the bottle cap, place the bottle directly into the nose and spray firmly, and at the same time inhale to let the medicine go deep into the nose. inside. Do the same with the other side of the nose. Depending on the recommendations on the instructions for use, spray once or more, paying attention to the intervals of about 10 seconds.
4️⃣ After spraying: Close the cap of the spray bottle carefully, then wash your hands with soap and water to avoid getting the medicine into your eyes or mouth.

Sinusitis and allergic rhinitis often present similar symptoms such as headache, nasal congestion, and difficulty breathing. However, both of these conditions are different.
Sinusitis occurs when your nasal passages become inflamed, whereas allergic rhinitis happens as a result of your immune system's reaction to allergens.
Find out how to tell the difference between sinusitis and allergic rhinitis so you can take steps to feel better.
Do you find yourself feeling more tired when you wake up in the morning? Or does your partner complains about your loud snoring all the time?

Even though anyone can develop sleep apnoea, certain factors such as being overweight puts you at increased risk.
When you are overweight, the fat deposits often accumulate in the upper respiratory tract, and as such, it narrows the airway even further. This can lead to decreased muscle activity resulting in sleep apnoea. Hence, if your sleep apnoea is a result of your excess weight, an ENT specialist may recommend you to make lifestyle changes to improve your sleep quality.
Reach out to us today if you think you're suffering from sleep apnoea and let us help you get a restful sleep every night.
Individuals suffering from sinusitis or allergic rhinitis tend to have extreme difficulty sleeping well throughout the night. Since the nose is congested, they end up breathing through their mouth, preventing the nose from warming and filtering the air. As a result, these conditions may increase your chance of snoring or developing sleep apnea.
A stuffy nose typically isn't a cause for alarm, however you should consult a doctor or an ENT specialist if you experience persistent blocked nose accompanied with mouth breathing or snoring.
Also known as allergic shiners, did you know that your dark eye circles could be a result of nasal allergies?
Nasal congestion in the sinus cavities can lead to vascular congestion in the veins under the eyes. When these blood vessels are blocked, the blood pools to cause your veins to swell. This creates the appearance of dark eye circles.
It is advisable to visit an Futoshi to find out if your dark eye circles are caused by nasal allergies, and to also learn more about the treatment options available.
Picking our nose is a common habit, usually done with the excuse of relieving discomfort caused by boogers. However, frequent nose picking may lead to severe consequences such as unintentionally damaging the tissues and structures within your nose.
Frequent picking of your nose can rub the nasal debris against the delicate nasal lining, putting you at risk of nosebleeds.
While nosebleeds like these are usually not a cause for concern, it can be annoying and disruptive to your daily life especially if it happens at work. However, large amounts of bleeding with no signs of stopping can be dangerous and warrants a trip to the nearest Accident & Emergency Department as soon as possible.
Check out our infographic below for a guide to stop nosebleeds.
Snoring is a common occurrence affecting up to 30% of adults in Singapore*. It occurs due to the restriction of airflow through the mouth or nose while sleeping, causing the vibration of soft tissues in the mouth, nose, and throat and giving rise to the familiar sounds of snoring.
Snoring may be associated with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), a sleep disorder which can lead to other symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, restless sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, teeth grinding and frequent urination at night.
Contact us today to learn how we treat snoring and OSA.
The sinuses are a connected system of hollow cavities in the skull. The largest sinus cavities are about an inch across. Others are much smaller.
Your cheekbones hold your maxillary sinuses (the largest).
The low-center of your forehead is where your frontal sinuses are located.
Between your eyes are your ethmoid sinuses.
In bones behind your nose are your sphenoid sinuses.
They’re lined with soft, pink tissue called mucosa. Normally, the sinuses are empty except for a thin layer of mucus.
The inside of the nose has ridges called turbinates. Normally these structures help humidify and filter air. A thin wall, called the septum, divides the nose. Most of the sinuses drain into the nose through a small channel or drainage pathway that doctors call the “middle meatus.”
Why do we have sinuses? Experts don’t know. One theory is that they help humidify the air we breathe in. Another is that they enhance our voices.
What is Sinusitis/ Sinus? How to identify the symptoms?
Medically known as rhinosinusitis, a sinus infection occurs when your nasal cavities become infected, swollen, and inflamed.
Conditions such as allergies, nasal polyps, and tooth infections can also contribute to sinus pain and symptoms.
Chronic vs. acute
Acute sinusitis only lasts for a short time- less than four weeks. An acute infection is usually part of a cold or other respiratory illness.
Chronic sinus infections last for more than twelve weeks or continue to recur. Specialists agree that the main criteria for sinusitis include facial pain, infected nasal discharge, and congestion.
Many sinus infection symptoms are common to both acute and chronic forms. Seeing your doctor is the best way to learn if you have an infection, to find the cause, and to get treatment.
Let's look at the key Symptoms to identify Sinus infection:
1. Pain in your sinuses
Pain is a common symptom of sinusitis. You have several different sinuses above and below your eyes as well as behind your nose. Any of these can hurt when you have a sinus infection.
2. Nasal discharge
When you have a sinus infection, you may need to blow your nose often because of nasal discharge, which can be cloudy, green, or yellow. This discharge comes from your infected sinuses and drains into your nasal passages.
3. Nasal congestion
Your inflamed sinuses may also restrict how well you can breathe through your nose. The infection causes swelling in your sinuses and nasal passages. Because of the nasal congestion, you probably won’t be able to smell or taste as well as normal. Your voice may sound “stuffy.”
4. Sinus headaches
The relentless pressure and swelling in your sinuses can give you symptoms of a headache. Sinus pain can also give you earaches, dental pain, and pain in your jaws and cheeks.
5. Throat irritation and cough
As the discharge from your sinuses drains down the back of your throat, it can cause irritation, especially over a long period of time. This can lead to a persistent and annoying cough, which can be worse when lying down to sleep or first thing in the morning after getting up from bed.
6. Sore throat and hoarse voice
Postnasal drip can leave you with a raw and aching throat. Although it may start as an annoying tickle, it can get worse. If your infection lasts for a few weeks or more, the mucus can irritate and inflame your throat as it drips, resulting in a painful sore throat and hoarse voice.
When to see your doctor for sinus infection?
Make an appointment with your doctor if you have a fever, nasal discharge, congestion, or facial pain that lasts longer than ten days or keeps coming back.
A fever is not a typical symptom of either chronic or acute sinusitis, but it is possible. You could have an underlying condition that is causing your chronic infections, in which case you may need special treatment.
Did you know that the nasal sinuses has a nutrient called nitric oxide? Long term depletion can lead to the cardiovascular plaque build-up.
Nasal breathing gives you access to this critical nutrient, while mouth breathing starves your body of it.
Nitric oxide signals to the cells in your arteries to soften and relax (vasodilation), an action that can greatly reduce blood pressure.
The best way to access nitric oxide is to breathe slowly through the nose.
Breathing heavy causes blood vessels to constrict. This is one reason why mouth breathers are tired a lot of the time. There is less delivery of O2 in mouth breathing. Normal breathing is approximately 4-6 liters/minute and 10-12 breaths per minute.
Oxygen saturation would be around 95- 98%. If you have a breathing problem you may breathe 10-15 liters/min, you may even take more breaths, but you do not have any more Oxygen.
Benefits of Nitric Oxide:
• As a vasodilator it decreases blood pressure and improves blood flow to the organs
• Anti-inflammatory action in the arteries
• Prevents blood clotting and obstructions in the arteries
• Immune defense: destruction of viruses and parasitic organisms
• Plays a role in respiration
• Enables erectile function
• Enhances memory and learning
• Protects the skin from harmful ionizing radiation
• Promotes a healthy digestive tract by regulating the secretion of digestive hormones and enzymes
• Hormonal effects: influences secretion of hormones from several glands
• Regulates bladder function
• Acts as a signaling molecule to maintain normal bodily functions Regulation of binding/ release of O2 to hemoglobin
Nitrates are compounds that play a big role in our metabolic system.
The largest source of nitrates (and therefore nitric oxide) in the human diet is vegetables. Beetroot is the best of the bunch, with most research focusing on beetroot juice.
Another exercise to access nitric oxide:
1) Take a deep belly breath, and pinch your nose.
2) Feel the pressure building in your nose, hold it for as long as you can
3) Repeat 5x aiming to increase the time you hold your breath
How did this exercise feel for you?
So there are only a few days left until 2021, a year of too many changes for the whole world. I hope that the passing of 2021 will open a new and beautiful page for the whole world.
Wishing everyone a safe, happy, lucky and healthy new year!
