It began operations in 1997 when it was officially registered under the Societies Ordinance of 1954.

The Chairperson of the Ethics Committee of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT), Judge Robert Makaramba, explains to the Director General of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Dr. Jabir Bakari how his committee handles mediation during a meeting between the two institutions held at TCRA offices in Dar es Salaam.
