At night, zebras lay down to sleep to reach a deeper, REM state of rest. But if they are sleeping during the day, you can often find wild zebras sleeping while standing! This allows them to be alert if danger is nearby, allowing them time to run away quickly if a threat is approaching since getting up can often be slow and clumsy.

Since at least the 19th century, zebras have been bred with other animals to form "zebroids." This cross between a zebra and another equine, most commonly a horse or donkey, is intended to result in the best of both species. Zebras have been largely resistant to domestication, but they are healthier and less susceptible to disease than their equine relatives.4 A variety of zebroids have resulted from these combinations, including zedonks, zorses, and zonies.

Although zebras can make noises, they can also communicate with each other through various facial expressions and through the flicking and movement of their ears. They can also communicate through sniffing and widening their eyes. For instance, when zebras greet each other, they will stick their ears straight up and push their faces forward. However, when they are frightened, their ears push forward, and when they are angry, their ears pull backward.

The Grévy's zebra are herbivores

They mostly eat grass, but can also eat bark, fruit and leaves and spend most of their time grazing (approximately 60%). Compared to others, the Grévy's zebra needs less water, and they have well adapted digestive systems which allows them to subsist on diets of lower nutritional quality than necessary for other animals.

Zebras are part of the horse and donkey family

Horses and zebras are closely related, they’re not the same species, but they are part of the same family, the Equidae family, also known as the Equus family. Although part of the same family, zebras aren’t practical to ride like horses, mainly because they are smaller and they have a very different temperament to horses.
