WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA UNDER LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY
[BURN BAN]

Washington County, Virginia has declared a Local Emergency issuing a ban on burning, effective immediately in response to the fire hazard conditions that create extreme fire danger. This ban is the result of an extremely dry weather and no significant rain fall.

The ban on burning is applicable to public and private property and will remain in effect until Washington County receives a significant amount of precipitation to reduce the fire danger.

Heads-up Washington County – We’re at a Class 3 (HIGH) Fire Danger today!

With an increase in fire danger, this means fires are more likely to start easily from most causes, can burn at faster rates, and can be difficult to control.

We suggest foregoing any outdoor burning.

Last night at 8:11PM, your were dispatched to a controlled burn that got a little out of hand because of the wind. While we want to remind you of the 4PM Virginia Burn Law, we urge you to be aware of the weather forecast if you intend any kind of open-air burning after 4PM. Never burn on dry or windy days because a controlled burn can quickly become out of control.
