Abington Middle / High School Library
Posts to promote reading, information literacy and share good news about the great things happening in the Abington Middle High School Library.
For the next 21 days Mrs London will be posting summer reading suggestions from the Massachusetts’ Teen Choice Book Award nominees. This is the only award in the Bay State that invites students in grades 7-12 to select their top new books of the year!
The list of nominees has been curated by a committee of public librarians, school library media specialists and educators. ( Mrs London is on this committee) Teens are invited to read the titles starting during the summer and vote for their favorite books in September! *Note while the nominees include a number of books for 7&8th graders some books are recommended for older teens. There is a link from the library website to get details. These books are also great for adults. Mrs London is in a book club with Abington educators and we are reading Accountable this month.
Four of Mrs London’s favorite Dads from children’s literature to celebrate Father’s Day. ( I know Laura Ingalls Wilder is controversial but Pa isn’t depicted nearly as racist as Ma.)
Congratulations to Bella, a 7th grader who read 118 ebooks this year!
Congratulations to Salwa, our 8th grade Remarkable Reader Award winner. During her four years at Abington Middle School Salwa had read 474 ebooks. Reading is her superpower! Mrs London also enjoyed seeing Sarah, Salwa’s older sister and one of our former library volunteers and National Honor Society officer.

I just killed so many trees to print 237 overdue notices. School ends Wednesday. PLEASE ask your students to return their books. I send out monthly overdue notices but kids don’t check email. Now I’m off to deliver these notices to homerooms. Heavy sigh.
5th grade reading challenge is finished. One student from each class won a 50 state puzzle. Everyone who participated earned a prize book and there were also gift card raffles. Oh, and Mrs London had to dye her hair green. The phenomenal fifth grade teachers do so much to support reading! 💚
Wow! Wow! It was Christmas in June! Thank you to Suzanne Hubschwerlin for this amazing donation of manga!

This Bridgeblock information session will explain the application process and hopefully answer any questions about the organization.
