Floaters are strings, spots, and other shapes that drift around your visual field. They’re always just out of reach, so you can’t focus on them. The floaters are actually shadows. Cells inside the vitreous body, the gel-like material that gives your eyeballs their shape, clump together to cast the shadows on your retina.

Floaters can be simply a part of aging, but they also might indicate severe issues like retinal tear or detachment. Floaters should be evaluated!

It depends on the underlying cause. A speck of dust or pollen can irritate the eye, causing it to become red, but you can wash out the mark or take an antihistamine for the seasonal allergy, and you’re fine.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still lingering around, it is even more critical for us to emphasize hand hygiene this year to keep ourselves and our families strong and protected.

Follow these five steps every time:

1-Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap and apply soap.
2-Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
3-Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
4-Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5-Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

It can be disconcerting to see black spots, squiggly lines, or other dark shapes in your visual field, especially because no amount of blinking gets rid of them, and they follow your gaze wherever you look. But are they harmful? Can they put your eyesight at risk?

The floaters are actually shadows. Cells inside the vitreous body, the gel-like material that gives your eyeballs their shape, clump together to cast the shadows on your retina.

Floaters usually appear during posterior vitreous detachment. This is the time when your vitreous body starts shrinking, pulling away from the retina. It’s a natural part of aging, and floaters may appear randomly during this time.

There are also more serious causes of floaters like Retinal Tears, Retinal Detachment and Vitreous Hemorrhage.

By far the most important organs of sense are our eyes. We perceive up to 80 per cent of all impressions by means of our sight . And if other senses such as taste or smell stop working, it's the eyes that best protect us from danger.

If you spend a lot of time using a computer, you can forget to blink your eyes and your eyes can get tired. To reduce eyestrain, try the 20-20-20 rule:
Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds.

In diabetic eye exams, Dr. Omphroy evaluates your eye health and vision, just as with a regular comprehensive eye exam. He pays special attention to the areas of the eye that diabetes typically damages.

A diabetic eye exam includes microscopic retina examination using a Haag-Streit slit lamp, retinal and optic nerve analysis with a Maestro optical coherence tomography (OCT) machine, and other tests that analyze the blood vessels, nerves, and other structures inside your eyes.

Some masks have eyeholes that are too small for adequate vision.
Take some scissors and widen the eye holes to allow for better peripheral vision. Always lift the mask while walking over unstable ground or dark pavement.
Also, walk with a flashlight so you can see what lies in front of you.

If you have a serious underlying problem, you may need surgery for red eyes. Dr. Omphroy always prioritizes conservative care, but if you simply can’t get good results from non-surgical treatments, he doesn’t hesitate to recommend appropriate surgical interventions.

After treatment fully resolves your red eyes, Dr. Omphroy may recommend some long-term changes to minimize the chance of recurrence. These could include simple changes like always wearing sunglasses outside, avoiding certain triggers, and washing your hands frequently.
