Yesterday, I had a great time being the luncheon keynote speaker for the NYLA Youth Services Librarians up in Lake George, NY. Today, on the drive home, I will celebrate Independent Book Store Saturday with some of my favorite bookshops. First, Northshire Bookstore Saratoga (I'll be there around 10:30 a.m.) and then the The Little Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany around 2 p.m. I'll sign books and leave behind some jelly beans for all the Smartest Kids in the capital region of New York!

Balloons have been ordered! Come meet Chris Grabenstein at 2pm! We're so excited he's coming, but it's a short informal visit, don't miss it!

I was in the grocery store last week and a woman came up to me and told me that she and her four-year old son had been reading A Very Mercy Christmas every night before bed.
“He calls the it the book where Eugenia smiles,” the mother said to me.
“Wait,” I said. “Does she smile?”
“You need to go home and look at the last page,” she said.
So that’s what I did.
