Congratulations to Rossi Maldonado on a very prestigious coaching assignment last week!
Coach Rossi - who leads varsity girls' and boys' swimming at Albany High - was chosen to be part of the coaching staff at USA Swimming's National Diversity Select Camp.
USA Swimming created the National Diversity Select Camp to empower athletes from diverse backgrounds and under-represented populations to participate in a special swimming experience. The workouts, training sessions and competition - this year held in Indianapolis June 13-16 - is led by those considered decorated leaders within the sport.
Thank you Coach Rossi for all you do for our student-athletes and for representing the Falcon program on a national level.
Our four fabulous Falcons are just back from nationals and boasting a new personal record!
The 4x400-meter team of Rohan Edwards-Grant, Adam Elia, Daaron Harrell and Malachi Young shaved more than four seconds from their time at Sunday’s New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia and crossed the finish at 3:20.55.
The best track and field athletes from around the country compete in the invitational championship every year and the City School District of Albany is incredibly proud of our relay’s impressive 35th place finish.
Good luck to the team’s only senior, Young, in his future academic and athletic endeavors and we can’t wait to see what the three returning student-athletes accomplish next year!
A huge congratulations to all our student-athletes recognized at this year’s Athletic Awards night, especially Elijah Temple and Anaya Zullo, our 2024 Director’s Cup recipients!
Also, a big thank you to all our coaches for your hard work and commitment, as well as all the friends, family and community partners who helped make this celebration of our incredible student-athletes such a success.

A Newburgh native, Pilla has extensive experience in athletics and physical education. She was a physical education teacher for more than 20 years in Beacon, where she also coached varsity basketball and soccer, before moving into administrative roles in the Onteora and Monticello school districts.
