Join your local community farm March 8th at 5:30PM for a special screening of “Occupy the Farm“ followed by a discussion with Gopal Dayaneni.

This is an indoor venue space. Please stay home if you are feeling unwell. Wearing a face covering over nose and mouth is encouraged to protect all our community members. Masks will be available. 🙏

Mariolga Reyes Cruz is joined by a farmer from El Josco Bravo, Suley Cruz, in presenting a viewing and discussion of the film Serán las dueñas de la tierra / Stewards of the Land, which she co-produced with Juan Manuel Pagán Teitelbaum.

Mariolga is also the co-founder and director of FiTiCAS, the first agrarian Community Land Trust in Puerto Rico. The mission of this group is to protect farmland in perpetuity securing just and equitable access to the land for generations of local landless ecological farmers in Puerto Rico.

Prior to founding FiTiCAS, she taught at the University of Puerto Rico and worked on coalition building for social and climate justice. Mariolga and Suley are interested in chatting with and building relationships with others committed to cultivating food sovereignty and solidarity.

It was a beautiful day with community, made possible by wonderful volunteers!

Come and meet Matricaria recutita, otherwise know as Chamomile. This powerhouse of a plant is in full bloom at the farm. Nathan Thompson will lead us through harvesting and processing of the flower. We will make tea of both fresh and dried flower and prepare a tincture. Bring a little jar so you can take some home.

Susan works across so many food justice spaces in the Bay, including being very active in the Gill Tract defense in 2015. Every little bit helps Susan in her recovery!
