Shout out to this year's Outstanding Advocate: Melissa Lopez!

Melissa Lopez has been a member of our community for 10 years. During that time she has served on our board holding the position of Treasurer. As a mom, she found a passion in advocacy in education, and obtained certification to become an IEP coach launching her own practice to help families with their child’s IEPs.

During her time as a coach, she assisted countless families, many of which are RGDSN members, educating them on the IEP process, family rights and attending conferences with them to help navigate the sometimes challenging and daunting process.

Now, as a Family Specialist at UNM Center for Development and Disability she continues to act as an ally and advocate for families in the disability community.

This weekend, Albuquerque's own Bodhi Candelaria will shine bright in New York City's Times Square! Bodhi has been selected to be featured in the National Down Syndrome Society’s annual video presentation. This one-hour video showcases 500 photos of individuals with Down syndrome from all 50 states and 14 countries.
