May is Maternal Mental Health Month. In light of this, we would like to discuss Perinatal depression, and some potential forms of treatment. Perinatal depression, or major depressive disorder with perinatal onset, is depression that begins in the period from conception to after pregnancy.
Potential treatment options that may reduce perinatal depression symptoms:
1. Talk with a mental health professional, perhaps even before childbirth
2. Undergo depression screening while pregnant and right after childbirth
3. Try to get regular exercise
4. Attempt 7-8 hours of sleep each night
5. Spend time with friends and family
Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is coming up!! You still have two weeks left to come up with a gift for the Moms in your life! 🤍

It’s National Counseling Month! Did you know that every federal agency and many private sector companies have Employee Assistance Programs? EAP’s offer financial, legal and psychological help often free of charge. For example, if you are a federal employee, you and your family members are entitled to six free sessions per issue per calendar year! You can even receive six free sessions of couples counseling if you work for the federal government. Reach out to your EAP coordinator today to see how you can take advantage of these incredible and often under utilized benefits!

The daily challenge of feeding, caring for, and educating our children is tough enough. Adding the stress of earning enough money to support your family as a single mom makes it even tougher. That is why it is so important to keep these tips in mind:
⏰ Determine where you can save time in your daily routine by prioritizing what is most important to you and your family.
🥰 Remember small moments matter- whether it is driving to school, waiting for a doctor, waiting on line at a store, use this time to remind your kids how much they mean to you.
🏡 Be creative in developing a support network. If you don’t have family nearby or friends from school/community groups, join a local moms or single moms Facebook group. These women may become close friends that allow for babysitter swaps or can recommend a trusted babysitter.
Just remember that everyone’s situation is unique and your solutions may look different than someone else’s and that’s ok! You are an amazing mother who is self-reliant, creative, and flexible! 🤍
