The International Academy is a special program within Alexandria City High School in Alexandria, Virginia designed for recent immigrants.
The International Academy is a special program within Alexandria City High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and part of Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). Our program is designed especially for recent immigrants. Our students are learning the English language while working towards an on-time high school graduation to prepare them for college and careers. We are one of eighteen member schools in the Internationals Network for Public Schools, INPS, based in New York City.

Also - check out our Instagram for a recap that includes the videos! ๐ค ๐๐พ๐๐ฟโโ๏ธIn December , we ๏ฟผ celebrated our studentsโ academic achievements, continued to build programs and connections with nonprofits like Cornerstone Craftsman and NovaRAFT, attended a premier for Desparate with Zahra, Hosai, and Sana, we received books in Dari and Pashto, and enjoyed the Holiday season! Also Anna Jaegar helped us raise a lot of money for needy families so Andres made the gift cards rain! It was a wonderful ending!

Also - check out our Instagram for a recap that includes the videos! ๐ค ๐๐พ๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ In July, Gabe, Megan, Pierina, Sherelle, Corri, Eden, and Dr. Khalil worked as ELL support/APA team at Summer School under the leadership of Jessica Milliken: a record number graduate! Shout out to all other teachers who were there, as well! We also expanded our partnership with NovaRAFT and FreshStart to expand tutoring. And finally, Gabe, Sana, and Zahra celebrated the birthday of Alexandria with fireworks and Zahra began to film for her documentary ideas!

The Solidarity Council which includes several of our student groups including our school chapter of the NAACP, the Social Justice Club, Jewish Cultural Club, Black Student Union and many others spoke at the school board meeting last week. They spoke about teacher retention and pay in ACPS, mental health supports and SEAL funding, restorative practices, community activities and groups, and many other student concerns ๐ณ๏ธ๐๐๐๐ฝ We love to see students getting involved!

Friday was the last day at the IA for Dr. Michelle Campiglia as she moves on to a Principal role in Loudoun County! Dr. Campiglia led us out of the confusing COVID time and we will always be grateful for her! She will always have a home at the IA!
