On Mandela Day, we honor the inspiring legacy of Nelson Mandela, a champion for African rights and a passionate advocate for education. ๐Ÿ“š His vision continues to guide our work at Bread and Water for Africa, where we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow.

Through our school fee assistance program, we're opening doors for hundreds of children who might otherwise miss out on education due to poverty. By covering their school fees, we're not just paying for classes โ€“ we're investing in dreams, potential, and brighter futures. ๐ŸŽ’ โœจ

But we don't stop there. We're building hope from the ground up, quite literally! Our organization has constructed schools like the Kipkeino Primary School in Kenya and the Logos Academy in Sierra Leone, creating spaces where young minds can flourish. ๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพโ€๐ŸŽ“ Every child we help, every school we build, is a living tribute to Mandela's belief in the power of education to transform lives and communities. Together, we can continue his work and create a more equitable Africa, one student at a time. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

Imagine turning on your tap and nothing comes out. Not just for a day, but for years. This is the reality for over 50,000 people in 12 rural Sierra Leone communities. ๐Ÿ˜ข They once had clean water flowing from the ground, but their wells have long since failed due to lack of maintenance.

Joseph Kobba, our local partner from Rural Youth Development Organization (RYDO), is determined to change this. But he can't do it alone.

With your support, we can:

- Repair 13 broken wells
- Empower communities with maintenance skills
- Provide clean water for decades

Your donation makes a huge impact:

๐Ÿ’ง $30 = Clean water for 100 people
๐Ÿ’ง $112 = 10% of a well repaired
๐Ÿ’ง $1,120 = One full well restored, serving thousands

Help us bring clean water to Sierra Leone. Every drop counts. ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒ In sub-Saharan Africa, where malnutrition among pregnant women has risen by 25%, prenatal vitamins supplements are crucial. ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ“ˆ

The situation in Ethiopia is especially dire, which is why this month we're partnering with MAP International to send 129,600 bottles of prenatal vitamins to Ethiopia. ๐Ÿ“ฆ These vitamins will be distributed through Haramaya University's network of clinics and hospitals, reaching thousands of mothers in need. ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ

The impact? Prenatal vitamins can:
Decrease low birth weight risk by 12% ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿพโš–๏ธ
Reduce preterm birth risk by 8% โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿพ
Lower stillbirth risk by 8% ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Persistent flooding at the Kyasira Home of Hope has left orphaned children sleeping in beds just inches above water and using unsanitary restrooms. The situation is critical, as there is a high risk of the roof collapsing.

We urgently need your help to build a new orphanage on higher ground, ensuring the safety and well-being of these vulnerable children. Your donation today can make a life-changing difference.

Please visit - https://breadandwaterforafrica.harnessgiving.org/campaigns/15103

These photos were taken at Kyasira's Home of Hope, a shelter for orphaned youth. Sadly, the entire building has been flooded for the second time, forcing the children to live in unsanitary and unsafe
conditions. They will have to endure these deplorable living arrangements until the construction of a new building is finished.

However, due to the high costs involved, the construction process has been put on hold. We firmly believe that with the support of generous individuals like you, we can raise the funds needed to
complete the new building and provide these children with a safe and healthy environment.

Please consider making a donation today, no matter the amount. Your contribution will directly impact the lives of these orphaned children, ensuring they have a proper home and a brighter future.

Meet John, a six-month-old child from Sierra Leone. John was taken to the Bumpe Health Center due to various health issues and was diagnosed with acute cold and roundworm infection. After receiving treatment with medicines (Mebendazole 500mg and Vermox Chewable) provided by Bread and Water for Africa, for one and a half months, John's health improved significantly.

Without your support, many children like John will not have these much needed medicines. Donate today to support more children like John. โค๏ธ

The Kyasira's Home of Hope, which provides shelter for orphaned youth, is currently in a dire situation. The entire building has been flooded with water, forcing the children to sleep in beds surrounded by
floodwater. The bathroom is flooded, creating an unsanitary and disease-prone environment, and all living areas are submerged. These conditions are not only uncomfortable but also unacceptable for the
children who call this place home.

Unfortunately, this is the second time the Kyasira building has been flooded due to its location on low-lying land. Efforts to construct a new, safer building on higher ground had begun with the help of local
churches and volunteers. However, the high budget required to complete the new home has halted the construction process.

With the support of generous donors like you, we can help finish the construction of the new home and provide a livable space for these orphaned youth. Your contributions will make a significant difference in
ensuring that these children have a safe and comfortable place to call home.

789 girls at Konzere Primary School in Malawi's Chikwawa District have been forced to use a miserable, unsanitary toilet that puts their health and safety at risk.

But there's good news! Our WASH project has just completed construction on a brand new toilet facility for the school. And we're not stopping there - two more facilities are in the works.

These new toilets will create a cleaner, safer space for the girls, encouraging them to attend school regularly and focus on their studies. Together, we're making a real difference in these students' lives.

Please consider donating today to fund the completion of the remaining facilities and sustain our life-changing WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiative. - https://harnessgiving.pulse.ly/euz2ptojvb

Happy mothers day to one of our longest-serving partners, Angela Miyanda! โค๏ธ

Angela is the founder of Kabwata Orphanage & Transit Centre in Zambia. Initially, Kabwata focused on community-based foster care providers and supporting children from pre-school through grammar school. It was not yet an orphanage. Recognizing the urgent needs of these children, in 1999 Bread and Water for Africaยฎ provided Angela with the necessary financial support to establish the orphanage. ๐Ÿ™

Nearly 30 years later, Kabwata continues to serve as a beacon of hope for Zambia's children. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Angela and all our generous donors whose support makes such initiatives possible!

Farming Godโ€™s Way (FGW), also known as conservation agriculture, is practiced by our partner, Faithful Heart Foundation (FHF). FGW promotes soil conservation through no-tilling, crop rotation, and mulch cover, enhancing productivity while mitigating climate change and soil degradation.

Alex Steven Bango, Chairperson of FHF, selects local farmers experiencing food shortages to participate in FGW training. This aims to foster self-reliance and restore soil fertility affected by climate change. Participants also learn optimal crop cultivation timings and best practices for raising livestock.

Funding from Bread and Water for Africa ensures that FHF can continue to help Malawi โ€˜Farm Godโ€™s Wayโ€™.

Our funding towards FHF is empowering Malawi to โ€˜Farm God's Wayโ€™ (FGW). Alex Steven Bango, Chairperson of FHF, emphasizes that the training's objective is to transition from conventional farming to Biblical principles, thereby improving livelihoods. FGW promotes techniques like no-tilling, crop rotation, and mulch cover to address climate change effects and enhance productivity.
Alex's plan is to train 30 farmers, comprising 20 women and 10 men, with a focus on those facing food shortages. The goal is to cultivate self-reliance, diminish reliance on food aid, and rejuvenate soil fertility impacted by climate change.

As a young woman, Esther's aspirations for education and a better life were abruptly interrupted when she became pregnant and was outcast by her family. Forced to fend for herself and her children, Esther struggled to survive in a harsh and unforgiving environment. Esther's relief came in the form of FHDO's farmer training program, supported by Bread and Water for Africa. Through this initiative, Esther gained invaluable knowledge and skills in agriculture, particularly in cultivating and selling groundnuts, a staple food in Sierra Leone.

โ€œI started a small business on my own with the funds I raised out of the groundnut sales. I now have food for my children and hope to send them to schoolโ€ - Esther Ngaojah

In Malawi, our partner, the 'Our AIM Foundation' (OAF), operates a vital mobile clinic in villages like Mseka, which face challenges due to poor road infrastructure. With no health center in Mseka, villagers and those in surrounding areas must travel long distances for medical care. Thanks to the OAF mobile clinic, villagers receive medical examinations, free medications, and treatment. On a typical day, OAF health professionals assist around 200 patients, including those with malaria.

This vital work is made possible by the ongoing support of our generous donors, without whom funding for these mobile clinics would not be feasible.
