. Lee Camp No. 726 Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is located in Alexandria, Virginia and is under both the National and the Virginia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). The Camp was founded on the 17th day of February 1927. It is dedicated to the preservation of Confederate history and heritage and seeing that the true history is passed on to future generations. The citizen-soldiers who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution. Lee Camp are preserving the history and legacy of these heroes, so future generations can understand the motives that animated the Southern Cause. We commit ourselves to honoring our ancestors who served so nobly in that cause and to the continuation of those values for which they sacrificed to preserve for all Americans. The SCV is a derivative of the United Confederate Veterans and is the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that the true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved. Towards that end, Stephen Dill Lee gave the following charge to the SCV: To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication for the cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier’s good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of the principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations. The Lee Camp supports ongoing programs at the local, state, and national levels that offer members a wide range of activities. This would include Preservation work, marking Confederate soldier’s graves, historical reenactments, and scholarly publications. We have regular meetings to discuss the military and political history of the War Between the States. These are only a few of the activities sponsored by local units, called camps. Your membership and involvement in the Lee Camp helps preserve your ancestor’s legacy and the true story of the South. The Lee Camp is one of the largest and most active camps in the SCV. We host five dinner meetings each year featuring well-known, quality speakers. The Camp honors General Lee each year with a formal banquet on his birthday, January 19. We march in Alexandria’s George Washington Birthday Parade and the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC. Finally, in true Southern fashion, we gather each summer for Juleps and Ci**rs, featuring authentic mint juleps fine ci**rs, period music and great camaraderie. Needless to say, there is no shortage of opportunity to network with like-minded Southrons sharing common ancestral bonds and historical interests. More information can be found at www.scv.org. Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either lineal or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically.
