Our Story
Volunteers in Medicine America is a national nonprofit dedicated to building a network of free primary health care clinics for the uninsured and medically underserved. The VIM America network is a peer-to-peer network of clinics that uphold the VIM model while providing quality health care services. At the heart of the VIM model is the Circle of Caring, an inclusive, supportive environment which treats each patient and volunteer with the dignity and respect that they deserve.
Experienced consultants at Volunteers in Medicine America guide the local steering committee or existing clinic leadership through a proven process to ensure that the clinic meets the standards and expectations of the VIM model.
Since 1996, Volunteers in Medicine America has assisted 114 communities in establishing free health care clinics for their uninsured neighbors. These clinics provide the gift of health care to those without access. In 2018, Volunteers in Medicine clinics provided care to over 87,000 patients and delivered over 349,000 visits.
