We hope you are all having a wonderful start to your summers! We are proud to announce that Rashmita Vaggu is May’s Student Employee of the Month!

Rashmita is a Masters student at GVSU studying Data Science and Analytics and is currently working with the University Libraries Department. When we asked Rashmita what her favorite part of working on campus is, she said, "Learning! Being a curious student assistant, I am always ready to learn something new and how things work at the library. Also, I am lucky to have my supervisors and manager to rely on when I need help or guidance in a new task." When we asked how her job has impacted her time at GVSU, Rashmita said, "Being an international student at GVSU, it was a little intimidating at the beginning. There is a huge cultural difference and language difference. Working at the Steelcase Library brought me close to the culture where I was able to meet people from different backgrounds. It also helped me improve my communication skills, organizational and other soft skills which will be essential for me in my future experiences at GVSU."

Troy Lazenby, Rashmita’s supervisor, said, "Rashmita always comes to work ready for the day and ready to face any challenge that comes her way. She is always looking for ways to help out around the library from decorating book displays to helping me with statistics projects. She asks questions when she doesn't know the answer and always goes the extra mile with the students that come to the service desk to ask for help. She is so amazing and I wanted to nominate her this month because she deserves the recognition for her work and how much we appreciate her."

Congratulations, Rashmita!

Hello, Lakers! We are wishing you all good luck in your final week of regular classes.

We wanted to urge you all to be cautious of any unsolicited job offers that get sent to your student email address. Our office was notified of a scam email that has been going around, advertising the need for a research assistant. In this email, they offer $350 a week for only 6 hours of work needed per week, and it claims to come from the GVSU Council of Undergraduate Research. If you have received this email, please do not respond to it. If you have already responded to this email and given them sensitive information, please reach out to your bank and GVPD.

For future reference, any valid on-campus job postings will be available on Workday for students to browse. If you receive a job offer email for a job you did not apply for in Workday, it is best to proceed with caution. A great rule of thumb is if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Job scams typically offer a large sum of money for minimal hours worked and ask for sensitive information. A valid job offer from an on-campus department would not ask for any of your information unprompted.

If you stumble across a job offer where you question its legitimacy, please reach out to the IT Department at [email protected], or our office at [email protected] to confirm whether the offer is real.
