This year marks the 79th anniversary of the end of World War II. Let us honor all the brave people who fought during this war and all the survivors who lived on because of them.
Today is Memorial Day. It is the day that we use to honor and mourn those who have passed away during their service. On our GVSU Allendale campus, you will find small American flags scattered around. Each of these flags represents about 20 Michiganders who have died while serving our country since the end of the Civil War. Let us take this day to remember those we have lost and honor their sacrifice.
Today is Armed Forces Day! Let us celebrate all the men and women who are currently serving for our country.
May 13th is Children of Fallen Patriots Day. This day is used to raise awareness for the sacrifices and struggles that children endure in the wake of their parents death and to honor them.
βOne of the best ways we can honor our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country is to invest in the future of those they loved most in the world - their childrenβ - David Kim, founder of the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation
Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day! We use this day to recognize and acknowledge the daily contributions, support, and sacrifices of spouses of the Armed Forces. Today is the perfect day to remind your amazing spouse how much you appreciate them!
Congratulations to all of our graduates and thank you to everyone who came out today to support them!
πΊπΈ Lakers, do you know about Four Chaplains Day? πΊπΈ
Yesterday marked a significant day in history - Four Chaplains Day, a time to remember the selfless sacrifice of four brave chaplains during World War II. On February 3, 1943, aboard the USAT Dorchester, Methodist minister George L. Fox, Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Roman Catholic priest John P. Washington, and Reformed Church in America minister Clark V. Poling demonstrated extraordinary courage. As the ship faced a torpedo attack, they selflessly gave up their life jackets, helping others escape before perishing together, united in faith and service.
Yesterday, today, and every day, we pay tribute to these remarkable individuals who embodied the values of our armed forces in the face of adversity. Their legacy serves as a powerful reminder even today of the strength found in selflessness, unity, and shared humanity. Let's take a moment to reflect on their bravery and the values they represent. π
π Happy Black History Month, Lakers! π
This February, we honor the contributions and enduring legacies of Black Americans throughout history, including those who have served in the armed forces with valor and distinction.
From the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, who soared through the skies with bravery during World War II, to the courageous Buffalo Soldiers, who served on the American frontier, we pay tribute to their unwavering commitment to our American freedoms even when Americans were fighting for the equality of all men and women. Their stories inspire us to uphold the values of integrity, service, and excellence in and out of uniform.
Let us use this month as an opportunity to amplify Black voices, celebrate Black excellence, and recognize the pivotal role that Black servicemembers have played in shaping our nation's history.

Lakers, do you realize that the United States National Guard was formed in 1636!?!
That is 387 years' worth of history resting on this day. So be sure you wish the National Guard members you know a proper thank you as they contribute to the legacy of our nation's history. Here's to the oldest US military organization!

π Happy First Day of Hanukkah, Lakers! May this Festival of Lights bring warmth, joy, and beautiful moments to all who celebrate. As we light the first candle on the menorah, let's embrace the spirit of unity, peace, and hope.
To all our students, faculty, and staff observing Hanukkah, may the next eight days be filled with laughter, love, and the glow of traditions passed down through generations.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Hanukkah!
Today, we pause to pay tribute to the lives lost in one of America's darkest moments that ultimately led to the US joining World War 2βthe attack on Pearl Harbor. December 7th, 1941, stands as a stark reminder of the resilience and unwavering dedication of our armed forces.
As we reflect on that day 82 years later, we honor the heroes who displayed unparalleled valor in the face of unimaginable adversity. The courage exhibited by the servicemen and women caught during chaos continues to inspire generations, reminding us of the price of freedom and the unyielding spirit of the American people.
Over 134,000 Americans enlisted in the month following Pearl Harbor. Over one-third of the American population was involved in the war effort the following year. So, let us take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to those who answered the call of duty in the face of fear and united our people during what should have been an American nightmare.
Looking to give your money to a good cause this ? Here's an option for you!
