Last Friday marked the 4th Annual 𝓨𝓦𝓒𝓐 𝓤𝓝𝓘𝓣𝓨 𝓦𝓐𝓛𝓚!

Thank you to every single person who made their way out in the heat to unite against hatred.

Everybody’s participation visibly demonstrated solidarity and commitment to creating a more inclusive and compassionate society, which is so moving to see year after year.

We are beyond appreciative of all of the groups that helped make this event possible, which include Union Avenue Methodist Church, Father John Coventry from Trinity Episcopal, La Familia Motorcycle Club, Main Street Alliance, Alliance Chamber of Commerce, and Alpha Tau Omega of Mount Union.

We are pleased to announce that YWCA Alliance's 4th Annual 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸 will be on Friday, August 30 beginning at 5 PM. We will be meeting on the corner of S Arch Ave and E Main St in the Camelot Pocket Park.

This highly anticipated event is more than just a walk—it’s a powerful gathering that celebrates community, inclusivity, and the strength that comes from coming together as one.

This year’s Unity Walk is in collaboration with Main Street Alliance’s Final Friday event. Before and after the walk, we encourage everyone to enjoy the Final Friday festivities that will include food vendors, music, art, and more!

We need Meals on Wheels Volunteer Drivers!

Currently we need drivers for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The delivery time is between 10:45 AM and 12:30 PM.

Those who can't leave the house need people who are happy to volunteer an hour of their time one day a week to ensure they stay fed.

In most cases, our patrons have no other family. The only people they see or talk to are the YW Staff and our MOW drivers. It is so much more than a meal, it is literally a lifeline.

Here is the training video to show you how.
https://youtu.be/ZiF2h0ai3Xw?si=gXrOGRI2FqiG4kB-

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD.
It costs you nothing to press share, but I can ensure you over 150 people in our community will be thankful you did.

We are currently in need of small pouches to pack the period products in (think small makeup/pencil pouches). Any new or gently used pouches would be greatly appreciated. We created an Amazon wishlist with these pouches that can be found here: https://a.co/hLs8qWR

We’re so grateful to partner with so many organizations to bring Summer Explorers to life. Thank you, Greater Alliance Foundation for funding this program!

Thank you to the YWCA of Alliance for helping serve dinner at the Summer Explorers Family Night this year! 🍎

It would not be possible for this program to be successful for the past 10 years without the help of groups like YWCA of Alliance, Alliance City Schools, Rodman Public Library, University of Mount Union, and Alliance Family YMCA.

Summer break doesn't mean our students stop learning! The six-week Summer Explorers program for students in grades 2-5 helps prevent "summer slide," the learning that is lost throughout the summer months. This is generously funded by Greater Alliance Foundation.

Last week, Summer Explorers concluded with Family Night, where students got to show off the skills and information they learned to their friends and family. Students also received backpacks full of supplies for the upcoming school year through the YWCA ABC for Kids program. The Carnation Queen contestants volunteered their time to pack over 200 backpacks for the Alliance students.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to these programs and showed their commitment to our youth!

Today is Black Women's Equal Pay Day. The wage gap still exists and disproportionately affects Black women.

Compared to non-Hispanic white men, Black women earn 69 cents to the dollar for full-time, year-round, equal work. This gap widens to 66 cents to the dollar when looking at all Black women earners.

"Black women continue to be underpaid, undervalued, and overrepresented in jobs that lack important workplace protections."

Today we celebrate the anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. President John F Kennedy proposed the act in 1963, which was then passed by Congress in 1964 and signed into law by President Lyndon B Johnson just hours later.

This act outlawed segregation in all businesses, including restaurants, hotels, and theaters. It also banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, s*x or national origin.

This is considered one of the crowning achievements of the Civil Rights Movement. This act was also expanded upon by Congress in the following years. As we celebrate the anniversary of this milestone, we look toward the future and build upon the work of those who came before us.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, 250,000 slaves were finally freed in Texas by the US Army, marking the end of the last bastion of slavery.

In observance of the holiday, the YWCA Alliance is closed and Meals on Wheels will not be delivered today. We will open again tomorrow, 6/20 at 9 AM.

This past Friday we marked a new beginning within our 98-year-old Transitional Housing Program, as we unveiled Donna Jean’s House.

We purchased this property at the beginning of the year and after lots of work, it is finally ready for residents.

As Stacie talked about at the Ribbon Cutting, this has been made possible by the outpouring of generosity from the community.

An endowment has been set up in memory of Leonard and Martha (Carr) Goldrick, ensuring that this project will remain sustainable.

We have also benefited from the estate of the late Donna Jean Ermlich, whose initial donation allowed for the purchase of the property.

Countless other individuals have contributed their time, money, and support, and we are beyond grateful to every single person who has been involved.
