California foster family agencies (FFA) are in jeopardy of losing their insurance if AB 2496 does not pass with language required by the Nonprofits Insurance Alliance of California (NIAC). Nearly 45,000 children and youth are in the California foster care system, with 9,700 of those children placed in resource family homes supported by nonprofit FFAs. On July 5, NIAC notified providers and insurance brokers that they would not renew liability insurance for foster family agencies as of October 1, if the state does not pass the AB 2496 Foster Family Agency Accountability Act on September 30.
