April is . Managing our stress is key to maintaining both mental and physical health. Here are a few simple tips that can help decrease stress levels:
• Increase your physical activity. Take the stairs when you can, park a few spots further away from store, think of other ways you can increase your daily steps both at home and at work.
• Stay hydrated - water helps combat fatigue. Feeling sluggish can decrease your ability to manage stress.
• Take deep, calming breaths throughout the day.
• Carve out some time each week to do an activity that you enjoy.
• Be aware of when you’re feeling stressed and take a step back to prioritize your time/tasks.
• Make a commitment to yourself to take care of your overall well-being. You’ll be glad that you did!

Dr. Margaret Morgan Lawrence:
Dr. Lawrence blazed a trail for not only women, but for African-American women as well. At Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, she was 1 of 10 women at the university and the only African-American student. She began her career as a pediatrician and returned to school to become a psychiatrist. She served as the Chief of Psychiatry, for 21 years at Harlem Hospital for Infants and Children.
Dorothea Dix:
She was an activist for the profession of nursing and advocated for the care of the mentally ill. Ms. Dix also established facilities in several states for individuals seeking mental health treatment.
Anna Freud:
Ms. Freud was the daughter of Sigmund Freud and became an influential psychologist. She was a pioneer in child psychoanalysis and was an advocate for expanding mental health care for children.
Thank you to these women for their commitment to making lives better!
