The Waste-Free World by Ron Gonen
“The book makes a persuasive, forward-looking case for a circular economic model, a ‘closed-loop’ system that wastes no natural resources. Entrepreneur, CEO and sustainability expert Ron Gonen argues that circularity is not only crucial for the planet but holds immense business opportunity.” — Penguin Random House. Tap the link in bio to learn about the book.
My take: Waste-free World is a solutions-oriented read that sparks hope! And a major respect for human ingenuity. I’m not done yet (full discloure, and may not be by Monday) but what I am absorbing will carry over into the New Year and beyond. – Tilly C.
Green Reads are open to all –wishful book readers, half book readers and full book readers. Our common denominators are a love of the environment and care for our local community 💚🌎
STANDING UP FOR NATURE.
Each year, dozens of regattas, festivals, and other events are held in Annapolis, drawing thousands to our beautiful community–and creating a tremendous amount of waste. Annapolis Green helps event organizers reduce, and often eliminate, landfill waste by rethinking the way resources are used and disposed of.
By embracing a zero-waste mindset, we hope to not only significantly improve the health of our city and planet, but also create a ripple effect that influences companies, residents, businesses, and public policies.
We all have the power to make a difference. Your contribution to Annapolis Green doesn’t just impact the environment; it also empowers individuals to be stewards of our planet, creating a legacy of environmental responsibility for present and future generations. Please give generously via the link in comments this .
Our gratitude burns bright for the small businesses in Annapolis. They are community-first, eco-friendly, socially conscious and make Annapolis truly unique. We hope you catch today’s energy on this sunny gorgeous day - you won’t regret it.

BANISHING PLASTIC.
The planet is drowning in plastic. We’re rescuing our corner of it one straw, bag, water bottle, and cigarette butt at a time. Why? Because plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental threats we face, choking our waterways and injuring countless seabirds and marine mammals. Partnering with local officials, residents, businesses, and other nonprofits, Annapolis Green is tackling the issue head-on, thanks to the support of people like you.
Your contribution to Annapolis Green makes our NAPTOWN TAP and other programs possible. It’s a direct investment in a cleaner, healthier, more sustainable community and a vote for a brighter tomorrow. This , please give generously to Annapolis Green. Follow link in comments.
I’ll remember the Sultana Downrigging Festival for its positive impact and impression it left upon me. The report is strong 💪🏼 ♻️.
The event itself was a treat - tall ships, including a replica of the Dove known for accompanying the first 140 colonists to settle in what we now know as Maryland 🦃 🌽
I look forward to returning next year. This event is in its 20th year with the last several being 💚🌎
Community is at the heart of everything we do – from educating people through our electric vehicle initiatives and composting programs to bringing them together at to connect over our shared interest in a healthy planet 🌎

3.5 years of outdoor dining in the city of Annapolis and it’s still temporary. City Council was thiiis close to passing a bill that would have begun to solidify outdoor dining in city code, but after a year of amendments, they withdrew the entire bill last week. Even with a final amendment that would have solidified outdoor dining in all forms across the city (parklets on the street, private parking lots, rooftop decks, sidewalk cafes), they voted to kill the bill entirely.
Hopefully there is a new bill coming before the temporary resolution runs out in February.
If you see your alderperson around town, let them know if (and why!) this issue is important to you. If new legislation comes up, we will let you know here about actions you can take. Thank you for enjoying and supporting year-round outdoor dining over the past 3.5 years ❤️

Guidance from Sailors for the Sea’s clean regatta program and the improved messaging and leadership from the Annapolis Boat Shows made all the difference. Pusser's Closing Annapolis Restaurant Next Year: Report | Annapolis Patch Pusser's is closing its downtown Annapolis restaurant next year, a press release said. The waterfront eatery hopes to reopen later in an undetermined location.
Proud to have taken part in this important conversation about the challenges and rewards our local small businesses take on when they put the planet ahead of profits. We need to continue discussing how to best support these small businesses and how to make sustainability practices the norm rather than the exception in Annapolis.
