Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo! Launched in May of 2010 through the Carter's Charitable Foundation, our Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program supports Bert’s Big Adventure’s children and their families through the stress and uncertainty of hospitalizations. The beloved fairy godparents visit Bert’s Big Adventure kiddos at partner hospitals daily throughout their hospitalization, bringing toys, activities, food and a much-needed break for the entire family.

In addition to the Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program, Carter’s also provides a team of volunteers at the Disney Send-Off Celebration and Family Reunion Adventures throughout the year. Because of its strong support and unwavering commitment to Bert’s Big Adventure, Carter’s has become a trusted teammate, helping Bert’s Big Adventure accomplish more each year.

As a token of our appreciation, we’re going behind the scenes of our Fairy Godparent program and bragging about a volunteer every first Friday of the month! Won’t you help us in making them feel extra special and loved?

Today’s spotlight belongs to Ginny! Ginny began her magical journey with Bert’s Big Adventure as a fairy godparent in January 2012 and has been such a helping hand ever since. Here’s what she has to say about her Fairy Godparent journey.

“Stand out moments for me are found in the quiet moments spent with the kids and or their families at the hospital. Don’t get me wrong, send off, reunions, and watching the kids grow up are incredible experiences and wonderful times of celebration, but in the hospital I find the most cherished moments when the children and their families are going through their most vulnerable trials. They are filled with the good, bad, scary, celebratory, uncertain, hopeful, and everything in between.

Being invited in to share those is something I respect, treasure, and don’t take for granted. I’ve been there in times of laughter, tears, joy, suffering, pain, seen unimaginable things, and been part of families sharing beautiful wins.

Spending quality time with the kids and their families in the hospital lends insight that is especially unique. It builds a bond unique to any other aspect of BBA.

Those moments are what reminds me of why being a FGP is so important and brings me the most joy.” - Ginny

From the bottom of our hearts, we are so thankful that Ginny and Carter’s Charitable Foundation are a part of our Bert’s Big Adventure community. They have warmed the hearts of so many with their positive attitudes and playful spirits.

With the heaviest hearts, we share the news that Hugh Logan (Hughie), 27, passed away on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024. Hughie embarked on Bert's Big Adventure's annual 5-day journey to Disney in 2006; he was only 9 years old.

Hughie was born with Myotonic Dystrophy, an inherited disorder of muscle function. It is characterized by muscle weakness and myotonia (slow relaxation of the muscles after contraction). Myotonic dystrophy affects only 1 in every 20,000 people.

"Despite his non-verbal nature, Hughie's love was always evident in his eyes, especially when he received a hug. His Grandparents, Sheila and Don, who made Hughie the center of their lives, were a blessing to him. We take comfort in knowing that Hughie is now with his beloved Poppa. The Bert's Big Adventure family will forever cherish Hughie's silent but powerful presence. Hughie has always been and will always be a greatly loved and cherished member of the Bert's Big Adventure family." Nurse Cathy Robinson

The Bert’s Big Adventure staff recently interviewed Hughie for the 20th Annual Legacy Book. He shared updates on his life and memories of his experiences with Bert’s Big Adventure throughout the past eighteen years. He specifically doted on his niece and nephew, stating that spending time with them was his favorite activity. He also particularly highlighted how much he loved going out to eat after doctor appointments!

Hughie also loved the bond he shared with Candace, a fellow Bert’s Big Adventure 2008 kiddo. They had such a special friendship.

"To have a kid who is unable to communicate be able to look at me on Saturday, shake his fist up, and say, 'Awesome!'…says everything." - Melissa Carter discussing her time in the park with Hughie during the 2006 broadcast from Walt Disney World.

The sun made a special appearance just in time for our annual Summer Family Reunion Adventure today!

Nearly 70 families attended our VIP pool party! No one can turn down a splash bash in this Georgia heat!

Our beautiful families, along with our staff and dedicated volunteers, gathered at Life Time Sandy Springs to swim, ride the waterslides, connect, and enjoy the last few moments of summer together. A big thank you to Life Time for closing the pool so our families could have an exclusive pool party together!

We also want to give a huge shout out to Gas South for sponsoring all of our family reunions in 2024!!

There’s even more thank yous to shout from the rooftops! for providing a delicious dinner, DJ W***y T, aka Tommy from The Bert Show for keeping the party going with the latest tunes, Button It Up, Inc.for the tubular Photo Booth, Kona Ice for bringing their food truck out and treating our families to dessert, and EcoTech Services for keeping us all very hydrated with waters and Gatorades!

What a beautiful day! 💜

Over the last couple of days, we have been celebrating two incredible Bert's Big Adventure volunteers, and we want you to join the party!

The Treasurer of the Board of Bert's Big Adventure, Ashley, celebrated her birthday on Saturday, and today is treasured member of the Volunteer Medical Staff, Nurse Lisa's birthday!
