I’m sooo sooo proud this morning and again humbled. The GOSPEL Stellar Awards nominations came out yesterday and our clients our nominated in 20 of the 29 categories. The show is in Vegas this summer I believe. My partner Richard JR Byrd love them all but these three right here are so special and I have quietly handled a lot of deals for them and just wanted to shout them out amongst many others nominated (including, Da Truth, Pastor Mike Jr., Canton Jones and Zak Williams$.

THE Lucinda Moore and THE Maurette Brown Clark, who also sings with Vison, are in the same category so I’m rooting for a tie in that one:). 🥰

And the very talented Darlene Johnson McCoy is nominated in the radio show and host category.

Gospel music and the gospel industry is our foundation of two decades plus and I am so grateful after serving on the Stellar Awards Board for a decade to see the growth and continued success of the show. Please congratulate them all below.

LAWSUIT: For years, I have driven around Atlanta and seen folks wearing "God is Dope" clothing. Well, this is our client SSteve King-he actually is the creator of the mark and rightfully alleges the mark was taken from him and we agree.

In the next few days, we will reach out to the attorneys for the illegal users of God is Dope to resolve this matter. If no cooperation, we will push ahead and call for a boycott of the brand and get justice in court for this wonderful young man.

BIRTHDAY CHECK-UP! Thank You Northside Hospital Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology-Atlanta for the free men’s prostate PSA testing. This weekend, I along with dozens of men, took the free PSA test and await results in a couple of weeks. The PSA test is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. I am urging brothers to please get the testing done and your colonoscopy testing- black men are at a higher risk. I try to do it annually during my birthday week but got busy last year. So we had to get it done this year. Also urging others to please share your testimonies below whether personal or someone you know involving this important subject or SHARE, email and forward this post and the message-the best birthday gift you can give me. Hopefully, we can save lives!🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Background: Few people know two of my closest friends in the music industry are rap icons Kurtis Blow and Rakim. Quietly, I’ve worked with those two legends and Bambaataa, DMX and K Camp just to name a few. Folks have seen our firm free dozens of artists from bad contracts and many on the gospel side. But know that the Hip Hop artists stop me all the time, read my book (“This Business of Urban Music”) and privately stand with everything we about in empowering artists, getting masters back on your albums and they don’t give a darn about being popular or you being like. When I was inside counsel for The Source Magazine many years ago, it was this circle that had my back when we were suing labels and many of our gospel artists were scared to say hello at the Stellar Awards.

I’m also close to Master P’s family as well and privately the message is the same: keep doing what your doing in fighting for the least taken care of whether gospel or rap or jazz or pop. We get the calls!

Winning the case last month for Take 6 sounded a lot of noise in the industry, but I’ve quietly spent the past two years representing two of the children of DMX and will have some news there soon and no one knew- never ever posted about it!

So this weekend, at the invitation of my dear colleague Al B. Sure, I will be speaking at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network (“NAN”). This week, I have seen the likes of Magic Johnson, Tyler Perry, Bishop Vashti McKenzie and earlier today VP Kamala Harrris showed out.

So I’m humbled tomorrow to sit on a panel with my hero DJ Red Alert, Brother Al B., Eric B, Dres from Black Sheep, Ruben Diaz, Jr., Rev. Sharpton’s daughter Ashley and many others. I also want to note the work Rev. Sharpton is doing is amazing with panels on social justice, education, healthcare and ours on the music industry and Hip Hop at 50! Come Thru!
