WDAV Classical Public Radio is pleased to announce that our first three Recording Inclusivity Initiative recordings have been released into a national database accessible to public radio stations across the country!

As a key member of Charlotte’s arts community, WDAV’s involvement in the Recording Inclusivity Initiative reinforces our desire to lead by example, advancing representation by diversifying our music library and shining a light on artists from historically marginalized communities in classical music. WDAV is proud to be among the first classical radio stations to record additional works: Xinyan Li's Mongolian Impressions, Damien Geter's String Quartet No. 1 (Neo Soul), and B.E. Boykin's Moments in Sonder.

(FLO) Finger Lakes Opera commissioned B.E. Boykin and Jarrod Lee to create the company's first opera in 2022. Over the past two years, this one-act opera has had two weeklong workshops; one in Rochester during FLO's 2023 Summer Festival and the second in Cincinnati when the company was invited to participate in The Cincinnati Opera's Opera Fusion: New Works initiative.

This free Behind the Curtain event, sponsored by the George Walker Center for Equity and Inclusion in Music, will give audience members the opportunity to learn how this new work has come to life.

Moderator Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, Eastman School of Music's Associate Dean of Equity and Inclusion, will lead a discussion on the Two Corners creative process and the themes explored therein.

Panelists include Composer B.E. Boykin, Librettist Jarrod Lee, Soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, and FLO Artistic Director, Conductor, and Founder Gerard Floriano.

A few glimpses from last weekend with The Wilmington Children's Chorus. Words cannot express my gratitude for a beautiful, East Coast premiere of “American Prophecy.” A heartfelt thank you and congratulations to ALL singers, musicians, dancers/choreographer, conductors and leadership for a beautiful concert! I’ve never left a concert so full!

And Ariel Alvarado - you continue to amaze me with your artistry and all that you do and give to your singers. Keep shining - I’m forever proud of you!

✨✨✨Every year, the College of Design at Georgia Tech recognizes faculty and staff for outstanding achievement that helps the College stand out nationally. To my surprise, last week I was awarded the 2024 Academic Faculty Outstanding Research and Scholarship Award. This award recognizes outstanding achievements in the initiation, ex*****on, and completion of research projects, contracts and/or scholarly works within the College of Design. The award is also given to academic faculty within the College who have established an exemplary record of research development and/or scholarship over the previous academic year.

To have my work acknowledged in this way by my peers was beyond comprehension and a huge surprise. I’m extremely humbled that my colleagues wanted to affirm and honor my creative practice in this way.

My students/singers will always be a huge part of my artistic motivation and inspiration. I’m forever grateful for them and all that they bring. My world is always better because of them. ✨✨✨

Over the weekend, I had the extreme honor of performing with the Ebony Keys Quartet for the Westover Baptist Church Benefit Concert. I can’t begin to tell you how heartwarming and fulfilling this experience was for me - it felt so good to play piano again and to do with amazingly talented people. Heartfelt, thanks to my teacher for life, Mrs. Alma Sanford for the invitation to participate. And DMV, it was such a joy to see you all there. Thank you for coming out and supporting such a beautiful cause! 💕💐💕💐

Hey DMV - I’m participating in something pretty special! It’s been awhile since I’ve played piano repertoire, but I wanted to dust the cobwebs off and get back to practicing for this wonderful fundraiser. The program includes works by Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Mark Hayes and Saint-Saëns to name a few - I hope you’ll join us on Sunday if you’re able!

There are many women working behind the scenes here at Finger Lakes Opera. One woman who is making our 2024 Festival possible is B.E. Boykin. FLO's first production this year is TWO CORNERS, a newly commissioned, one-act opera composed by Boykin set to premiere June 28 and 30. FLO is thrilled to be working with the next generation of opera composers. TWO CORNERS tells the story of the friendship between Florine, a Black woman, and Sarah, a white woman over a two decade period during the Civil Rights Era. To read more about B. E.
