GA WAND empowers women to advocate for climate & environmental justice, grounded in racial equity.
Georgia Women’s Action for New Directions (WAND) is an independent grassroots, woman-led organization that seeks to direct women's voices into a powerful movement for social change. WAND was established in 1982 by Helen Caldicott, long-time anti-nuclear activist and founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility. Atlanta WAND, the only Georgia Southeast chapter, was established a few years later

Mad about your high power bills? Check out the YouTube press conference highlighting our lawsuit against the State of Georgia for delaying the Georgia PSC Elections.
The Georgia PSC is responsible for our power, gas, and telecom (telephone) bills. Through House Bill 1312 (HB 1312) the Georgia General Assembly and Governor Kemp made it lawful to delay Georgia PSC elections, deny our right to vote out the Commissioners responsible for these rate increases, and elect Commissioners who care about Georgians having safe, equitable and reliable utilities.

Today, 6/7/2024 is Gun Violence Awareness Day and June is Gun Violence Awareness Month! Let's end Gun Violence together!
Thanks Kenya F. Sullivan-Crumbley and Rep Becky Evans for State House for sharing your advocacy efforts.
Simple facts to share during Gun Violence Awareness Month:
1. Americans are 25 times more likely to die from gun violence than residents of other high-income countries & Georgia is worse than average with the 14th highest gun violence rate in the US (Giffords)
2. Over 1500 people die every year in Georgia from gun violence; every single day, we lose at least 4 people to gun violence & every other day we lose a child (Everytown for Gun Safety)
3. Fi****ms are the leading cause of death in children in Georgia & US (Everytown for Gun Safety)
4. Among US cities, Atlanta had the 2nd highest number of gun thefts from cars in 2022 (Everytown for Gun Safety)
5. Gun safety laws work! If Georgia adopted common sense gun laws that exist in other states, our gun violence rate could likely be cut in half or more (Everytown for Gun Safety)
6. Safe Storage laws are associated with reductions in childhood firearm death and injury (Rand Corporation)
