The Annual Walter Rodney Symposium — The Walter Rodney Foundation Since 2004, an annual symposium has been held in Atlanta, Georgia or virtually during the week of Walter Rodney’s birthday (23 March). The goal is to bring together scholars, researchers, activists, students, and the community to discuss contemporary issues from a Rodney perspective.
This year’s Keynote at the Walter Rodney Symposium is Dr. Natalia Kanem, Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund. She is a major world leader who oversees programs and people in 120 countries. Please share with colleagues in related fields, who would like to join us for this free and open event! Marcia Douglas has been named as one of 10 writers to win one of this year's $50,000 Whiting Awards. Marcia Douglas's latest novel is The Marvellous Equations of the Dread. She is also the author of the novels, Madam Fate and Notes from a Writer's Book of Cures and Spells as well as a poetry collection, Electricity Comes to Cocoa Bottom.
Announced on Wednesday evening, Marcia was picked as one of the 10 writers to show "excellence and promise". The award hopes to support emerging talent by giving winners the chance to "devote themselves full time to their own writing, or to take bold new risks in their work".

We can’t keep Decolonial Marxism on the shelves! Walter Rodney’s work continues to be incredibly important and widely read by organizers and scholars alike.
Walter Rodney was an internationally renowned historian of colonialism and a leader of Black Power and Pan-African movements across the diaspora, most notably the Guyanese Working People's Alliance. His life and work brought together struggles for independence on the African continent with the strivings of the black working classes of North America and the Caribbean basin. On June the 13th, 1980, Rodney was assassinated by the then-president of Guyana. He was 38 years old. (Bio from )
