I’m attending a session on AI technology for the aging population at the American Society on Aging and it totally mind-blowing.
Huge discussion on the benefit yet costly.
I am compelled to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible experience we had during our recent visit to Houston for The Normal Anomaly Inc. BQAF festival and the grand opening of your new headquarters in the historic 3rd Ward. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a sense of warmth and belonging that truly touched our hearts.
The hospitality extended by the entire staff was beyond compare. Each interaction, from the initial tour of your facility to the enriching educational conversation following the screening of "I Quilt Because," filled us with admiration for the passion and dedication evident in everything you do. Your headquarters, with its echoes of our own humble beginnings at THRIVE SS, felt like a familiar haven—a place where meaningful connections are made, and dreams are nurtured.
Our time spent with you felt like coming home. The way you opened your doors and hearts to us, allowing us to host workshops and share our mission with your community, was nothing short of extraordinary. We were treated not as guests, but as family, and that is a rarity in today's world—a testament to the genuine care and compassion that permeates The Normal Anomaly's ethos.
Moreover, I must extend a special thank you to the H-Town Golden Guys for their gracious and receptive support during our visit. The bond formed between our organizations, united in our shared desire to uplift African American men and pave the way for future generations, is something truly special. Together, we are forging a path towards a brighter future, where all individuals are empowered to thrive and live their lives to the fullest.
As we reflect on our time together, I am filled with gratitude for the friendships formed, the knowledge shared, and the memories created. Our work lies before us, and while the road ahead may be uncertain, we take solace in knowing that we walk it together, hand in hand, as allies and advocates.
In closing, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the profound impact The Normal Anomaly Inc. and the H-Town Golden Guys have had on our organization and our mission. To say thank you is an understatement—it is a testament to the depth of gratitude we feel towards you all.

BREAKING: legalizes same-s*x marriage
HIV is Not a Crime Awareness Day Event
Our Laws are “Stuck in the 80’s”
Today is HIV Is Not a Crime Awareness Day.
Currently, 29 states and two U.S. territories still have laws that criminalize specific acts by people living with HIV (PLWH). 4 states have made significant changes to their criminalization laws since 2020, but more progress is needed.
Beyond the burden they place on individual lives, these laws may discourage HIV testing, increase stigma, and exacerbate health disparities.
Similar to the HIV epidemic, HIV criminalization laws disproportionately affect marginalized populations such as communities of color, transgender women, and s*x workers. These populations are more likely to be adversely affected by social determinants of health and racial inequities, which makes them more susceptible to contact with the criminal justice system and increases the possibility their HIV status will be used against them in a legal context.
THRIVE SS we are here to educate and advocate for improving health equity. People living with HIV who are in care and achieve an undetectable viral load CANNOT transmit HIV. =U.
On this National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, we stand in solidarity with our community to shine a light on the persistent disparities that continue to plague Black same-gender-loving men in the fight against HIV/AIDS. At THRIVE SS, Inc, our mission is clear: to achieve health equity for Black same-gender-loving men through direct support advocacy and building collective community power. However, achieving this goal requires a multi-faceted approach that not only addresses individual health needs but also confronts the systemic barriers perpetuating the epidemic.
Despite advancements in treatment and prevention, HIV/AIDS remains a significant public health crisis, particularly among Black communities. The statistics are stark and undeniable: Black individuals account for a disproportionate number of new HIV diagnoses and AIDS-related deaths. This epidemic is not simply a matter of personal behavior or individual responsibility; it is deeply rooted in systemic injustices such as poverty, lack of access to healthcare, stigma, and discrimination.
We cannot stress enough the urgent need for policy reform to address these underlying issues. Policies that perpetuate poverty and limit access to comprehensive healthcare exacerbate the disparities faced by Black same-gender-loving men living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS. We must advocate for policies that prioritize health equity, including expanding access to affordable healthcare, increasing funding for HIV prevention and treatment programs, and dismantling discriminatory practices within healthcare systems.
Furthermore, we must address the intersecting issues of stigma, discrimination, and systemic racism that continue to marginalize Black same-gender-loving men and hinder efforts to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We cannot achieve health equity without confronting these underlying injustices and creating inclusive, affirming spaces where all individuals feel empowered to access the care and support they need.
On this National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, let us recommit ourselves to the fight against HIV/AIDS and to the pursuit of health equity for all. Together, through advocacy, community engagement, and collective action, we can overcome the challenges facing our community and build a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
