On November 1st and 2nd, families across Mexico and Latin America celebrate Día de los Mu***os, a cherished tradition dating back thousands of years. Rooted in ancient Mesoamerican beliefs, this holiday honors loved ones who have passed, welcoming them back for a joyful reunion.

Traditions include creating colorful ofrendas (altars) adorned with marigolds (cempasúchil), candles, favorite foods, and sugar skulls to remember the departed and share stories of their lives. It’s a beautiful time to celebrate life, reflect on memories, and connect generations.

El 1 y 2 de Noviembre, familias en México y América Latina celebran el Día de los Mu***os, una tradición apreciada que se remonta a miles de años. Arraigada en antiguas creencias mesoamericanas, esta festividad honra a los seres queridos que han partido, dándoles la bienvenida de regreso para un alegre reencuentro.

Las tradiciones incluyen la creación de coloridas ofrendas (altares) adornadas con cempasúchil (flores de mu**to), velas, alimentos favoritos y calaveritas de azúcar para recordar a los difuntos y compartir historias de sus vidas. Place-based storytellers use oral testimony, photos, artifacts, landscapes, art, and technology as ingredients to raising awareness of its collective stable of communal assets, values, and ways forward. Maps are home to more than lines and turns, they serve as historical and sign-of-the-time stages where a deeper understanding of each other can make motion for more purposeful directions for our collective todays and for our tomorrows. Through the grant and the passion work of we invite stakeholders to experience the Buford Highway Community Story Map, an interactive collection of stories that foster this corridor's core identity and place in the ever unfolding chapters of change happening in Atlanta, the South, and our nation. Thanks for allowing us to share nonpartisan voting information to our communities at Pinetree Plaza! We also went door to door along the corridor from Manilla Mart, Seoul Plaza, to Pho Bac to getting in language information from and Georgia AAPI Hub final week of early voting!!

Great kick off at last evening’s Buford Highway Community Ambassador Program (CAP) meet and greet. Volunteers and staff came together for a deep dive into our 5 service tracks: Business; Language; Coalition-Building; Government; and Operations (WLBH Programs and Fundraising). Thanks to everyone who attended and sharing personal connections and passion for the communities of this corridor ❤️.

CAP was developed with the amazing trio students (Sandy, Madeline, and Khushi) and partners .

Last Thursday, in collaboration with CareSource , we held another WOW (Wellness on Wheels) event during our Little Bodega. Families were able to receive annual checkups as well as sports physicals during their visit. On top of the health services, the families who were served received a bag filled with dry staples. Mil gracias to The Salvation Army International for hosting us and to CareSource for their continued support in serving our Buford Highway families ❤️

El pasado jueves, en colaboración con , realizamos otro evento Bienestar Sobre Ruedas (WOW por sus siglas en Español) durante nuestra Pequeña Bodega. Las familias pudieron recibir chequeos anuales y exámenes físicos deportivos durante su visita. Además de los servicios de salud, las familias que fueron atendidas recibieron una bolsa llena de alimentos básicos secos. Mil gracias al Salvation Army por acogernos y a CareSource por su continuo apoyo en servir a nuestras familias de Buford Highway ❤️

Local Taiwanese nonprofits and leaders including our executive director joined as they donated funds towards humanitarian relief for communities devastated by hurricanes Helene and Milton to . The gathering included stories from communities of its historic connection to heritage and culture through places like the Cultural Community Center in and small businesses along the corridor that build continual senses of belonging through the sister city (Atlanta + Taipei) relationship spanning over 45 years in regional significance and growth. Gratitude to Red Cross staff and volunteers for all their work in saving lives.

A day that marks the beginning of the colonization of the Americas, the beginning of a transatlantic slave trade, and the decimation of 55 million indigenous people due to diseases brought by the Europeans—what some historians consider the greatest genocide in the history of man. In memory of the 55 million lives lost in the 16th century we are here today to celebrate indigenous peoples, and the resilience of so many ethnic groups in the Americas.

Es una fecha que marcó un momento clave en la historia del continente: fue el día que comenzó la colonización de las Américas, el día que inició el comercio transatlántico de esclavos y el comienzo de la muerte de millones de indígenas debido a la contracción de enfermedades que trajeron los Europeos, lo que algunos historiadores consideran el genocidio más grande en la historia del hombre. En memoria de las 55 millones de vidas que se perdieron en el siglo 16, hoy queremos celebrar a las comunidades indígenas que existen hoy en el continente.
