The Georgia Nurses Foundation was honored to present our first Sandra Rayburn Memorial Scholarships yesterday to students attending Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University, Deepthy Varghese (right center), in the DNP program, and Brianna Hood (left center), who is working on her BSN.

Dr. Rayburn graduated in 1965 from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University and later taught as a member of their faculty for 18 years. With a passion for teaching women’s health, she was described by students as encouraging, nurturing, knowledgeable, and compassionate. She inspired students and graduates to achieve their goals, … and then she encouraged them to set higher goals.

Victim, suspect identified after Kennesaw student shot, killed 05/20/2024

The Georgia Nurses Association is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Alasia Franklin, a dedicated student at Kennesaw State University who aspired to become a Nurse Practitioner. Alasia's passion for nursing and commitment to her leadership and education were exemplary. Her untimely passing is a profound loss to the nursing community. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and ambition. We stand in solidarity with KSU during this difficult time.

Yesterday our headquarters hosted a fundraiser for one of our own, Iris B. Hamilton, who is running for Georgia Senate District 55. Iris has been a true champion for GNA/GNF serving on the GNA Board as Director of Legislation/Public Policy, and now as a member of the GNF Board of Trustees. If you don't know her, she is a passionate, dedicated, advocate for the nursing profession and would be an amazing State Senator.
