It’s much better to intervene earlier than to wait until a child actually fails because remediation is demonstrably less effective later. One study even found that outcomes were almost twice as good if they were delivered in 1st and 2nd grade than in 3rd grade! As early childhood educators and those who support them, we know the impact a traumatic event can have on children. In an effort to mitigate this trauma experienced by our region's children and to provide them with some comfort and relief, we are assembling 4 types of kits: infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age. We're hoping to distribute these kits across multiple counties and over 45 sites that are being used for food distribution, supply distribution, and temporary shelter. Our volunteers will deliver these kits to be dispersed to families as they come through to meet their needs. Items include books, fidgets, activities, toys, and mindfulness items. While we know these aren't survival necessities, children still need to feel loved, cared for, and have activities to entertain them while their caregivers re-assemble their lives. Many have lost all that they have. We are extremely grateful for the many donations and offers of assistance we have had. We need to continue to build our inventory to make the biggest impact we can! Thank you for helping us bring this vision to life.
