WEA Children's Fund

The mission of the Children's Fund is to make sure all children thrive in school, regardless of their family income. How does the fund work? Help us help them.

To that end, the fund reimburses WEA educators who purchase shoes, clothing, and other supplies for students in need across our state. It seems like dignity is one of our most basic human needs. Our Story

It seems like dignity is one of our most basic human needs.

The other day, a friend of mine told me she was talking with a teacher who accessed the WEA Children’s Fund. The teacher had purchased some clothing and shoes for students who could not afford them. She said the fund is good because it helps children with just the basic needs so they are ready for the day.

How does the fund work? Any WEA member from across the Washington State can access the fund to help an individual student purchase a coat, clothing, a pair of shoes, eye glasses, or necessary school supplies. The idea behind the fund is to meet an immediate individual need a student has so he or she can be more ready to learn at school.

The teacher told my friend she used the fund for some of her fifth graders so that the very basic necessities can be taken care of, making it one less worry for a ten-year-old.
Our Children’s Fund, a 501(c) 3 charitable organization, helps our teachers and other school employees help our students by giving them a little dignity. A child should not have to worry about being teased because his or her shoes are too big or too small. A child should not have to think about whether or not to come to school on any given day because he or she really doesn’t have “the right” clothes.

During these difficult economic times, our members are reaching into their pockets even more than usual. As you can imagine, the number of request are astounding, but for every $75 we raise, another student’s needs are met. Help us help them. All donations to the Children’s Fund go directly to members, and therefore students. We cannot do this without the generous support of people like you.
