Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It's based on the premise that eye positions can indicate where a person is holding trauma or emotional tension in their brain. During a brainspotting session, the therapist helps the client identify these "brainspots," which are specific eye positions correlated with emotional or traumatic experiences.

The therapist guides the client's gaze to these brainspots while the client recalls the distressing memory or experiences associated with them. This process is believed to facilitate the processing and release of stored traumatic or emotional material in the brain. Brainspotting is often used to treat various mental health issues, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and performance anxiety.

Unlike some other forms of therapy, brainspotting does not require the client to talk extensively about their traumatic experiences. Instead, it focuses on accessing and processing these experiences at a deep neurological level.

Overall, brainspotting is considered a powerful therapeutic approach for accessing and processing trauma and emotional issues, leading to healing and resolution.

Integrating Internal Family Systems into Your Play Therapy Practice

June 28 & 28, 2024

Reflections Creative Therapies, 8198 Jog Rd. Boynton Beach 33472
When kids experience trauma or other negative life events such as abuse, neglect, bullying, racism, violence, or educational difficulties, they often hold powerful negative beliefs about themselves, such as β€œI’m broken”, β€œI’m unlovable”, or β€œIt was my fault”. Holding these beliefs/burdens can increase the actions of the kid’s protective system resulting in external conflict. By weaving the essence of IFS, parts work, and play therapy interventions, you can help kids conceptualize themselves and their experiences in a healthier way.

Sandtray therapy is a form of expressive therapy that involves the use of a tray of sand and miniature figures or objects to create scenes that reflect a person's inner thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In sandtray therapy, clients are invited to use the sand and various objects to construct a representation of their inner world, often without the need for verbal communication.

During a sandtray therapy session, the client is provided with a tray or box filled with sand, along with an array of miniature figures, toys, and objects. The client is then encouraged to use the objects to create scenes or landscapes in the sand that represent their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and experiences. The therapist may observe the client's creations and ask questions to help facilitate exploration and understanding of the client's inner world.

Sandtray therapy is often used with individuals, children, adolescents, and adults alike, and it can be particularly helpful for those who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally or who may feel more comfortable communicating through creative expression. It can also be effective in addressing a wide range of issues, including trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties.

Overall, sandtray therapy provides a safe and non-threatening space for clients to explore and process their feelings, gain insight into their experiences, and work towards healing and growth.
