Today's Bible reading: Eccl. 4:1-6:12, 2 Cor. 6:14-7:7, Ps. 47:1-9, Prov. 22:16

Today's family worship lesson: Read Ezra 6:19-22 & Exodus 12:14-27. From Ex. 12 point out the perpetual nature of the Passover (v. 14), its expected timing (v. 18), its significance (v. 23), and how it was supposed to be used to teach the children (v. 25-27). From Ezra 6:19ff, show how Israel took seriously the obligation to celebrate the Passover when returning from exile.

Point 2: The Celebration of the Passover (Ezra 6:19-22)
Point 3: Christ in the Passover

Sermon Text: Romans 12:14-21
Title: “A Renewed Life in Hardship - Part 3”

Vengeance for injustice against God’s people is uniquely His
responsibility.
Point 1: Vengeance and Man (Romans 12:19-21)
Point 2: Vengeance and God (Romans 12:19-21)

09/01/2024

Today's Bible reading: Eccl. 1:1-3:22, 2 Cor. 6:1-13, Ps. 46:1-11, Prov. 22:15

09/01/2024

Today's family worship: Read Romans 12:14-21. Look at the OT laws of justice (Ex. 21:23-25). Within that system look in Num. 35:21 at the avenger of blood. What was his function? Also look in Num. 35:24 to show that the avenger of blood was subject to the judgments of the courts. How is this OT system of justice different than the desire for vengeance?

08/31/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 40:1-42:17, 2 Cor. 5:11-21, Ps. 45:1-17, Prov. 22:14

08/31/2024

Today's family worship: Read Romans 12:14-21. In v. 17 we are commanded to live honorably. Show how that is not necessarily complete surrender to the evildoer (Acts 16:37). Who defines what is honorable? Also consider how the call to be peaceable (v. 18) becomes impossible (Matt. 10:34). What are instances where the Christian cannot maintain peace?

08/30/2024

Today's family worship: Read Matthew 13:24-30 and 13:36-43. Also read the parable of the dragnet, Matthew 13:47-50. Discuss again the mixed nature of the visible church in this age. Discuss how we ought to therefore soberly reflect on our own walk with the Lord, that we may indeed walk with integrity.

08/30/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 37:1-39:30, 2 Cor. 4:13-5:10, Ps. 44:9-26, Prov. 22:13

08/29/2024

Today's family worship: Read Romans 12:14-21. In v. 16 we are charged not to be wise in our own sight. In v. 17 to live honorably. Look at John 12:49 to see how the Son submits to the Father. What are ways a person acts wise in his own sight? Also look at how God cares for the evildoer (Matt. 5:45b; Rom. 5:10). How does God deal with man’s wickedness?

08/28/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 31:1-33:33, 2 Cor. 3:1-18, Ps. 43:1-5, Prov. 22:8-9

08/28/2024

Today's family worship: Read Matthew 13:24-30 and 13:36-43. What is meant by the field in this parable? Discuss what is meant by the end of the age and how this parable emphasizes the finality of this event. Discuss the mixed state of the kingdom of heaven in this age. How should this parable help us to persevere despite the presence of the tares of this age?

08/27/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 28:1-30:31, 2 Cor. 2:12-17, Ps. 42:1-11, Prov. 22:7

08/27/2024

Today's family worship: Read Romans 12:14-21. In v. 16, Romans instructs the Christian to live in harmony and to refrain from haughtiness. Talk about harmony as agreeing with each other (2 Cor. 13:11). Point out the importance of correct doctrine. Look at Christ’s example of humility when He washes the disciples’ feet. Read John 13:15 to urge Christ-likeness.

08/26/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 23:1-27:23, 2 Cor. 1:12-2:11, Ps. 41:1-13, Prov. 22:5-6

08/26/2024

Today's family worship: Read Matthew 13:24-30 and 13:36-43. Compare this Parable of the Wheat and the Tares with the Parable of the Sower (Matt 13:1-9; 18-23). There is some similar agricultural symbolism employed but how are the different symbols used to represent different things?

08/25/2024

Join us tonight at 5:45pm for Sunday evening worship. Mr Oliver Simmons preaching on Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43 >> “The Wheat and the Tares”. 2525 Lumpkin Rd, Augusta.

08/25/2024

Sermon Text: Romans 12:14-21
Title: “A Renewed Life in Hardship - Part 2”

The renewed Christian life is marked by imitation of God demonstrated in gentleness for his fellow man.
Point 1: Instructions for Relationships

08/25/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 20:1-22:30, 2 Cor. 1:1-11, Ps. 40:11-17, Prov. 22:2-4

08/25/2024

Today's family worship lesson: Read Romans 12:14-21. In v. 14, the Christian is instructed how to react during persecution. What are the positive and negative commands? Also look in v. 15 at what it means to rejoice and weep with others. Think about this subject in terms of Christ-likeness. Look at John 11:33 and 2 Cor. 1:3 to see how we imitate Christ in this area.

08/24/2024

Join us Sunday morning at 11am. Pastor Geoff Gleason preaching from Romans 12:14-21 >> A Renewed Life in Hardship - Part 2. 2525 Lumpkin Rd, Augusta

08/24/2024

Today's family worship: Read Romans 12:14-21. Talk about the danger of letting sinful anger creep in when responding to persecution. How might that be expressed? Look at Christ’s example in 1 Pet. 2:23. To what does Jesus entrust Himself when He faces His persecutors? How does Stephen imitate Christ in Acts 7:60? What should the Christian do?

08/24/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 16:1-19:29, 1 Cor. 16:1-24, Ps. 40:1-10, Prov. 22:1

08/23/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 12:1-15:35, 1 Cor. 15:29-58, Ps. 39:1-13, Prov. 21:30-31

08/23/2024

Today's family worship: Read Matthew 13:10-17. “Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.” How are believers especially blessed? What is the disciples’ and our advantage compared to the saints of the Old Testament? How can we practically respond to this blessedness?

08/22/2024

Today's family worship lesson: Read Romans 12:14-21. How does the Christian imitate Christ in persecution? There are two instructions: 1. Bless; 2. Do not curse. Look at Gen. 27:27bff for an example of a blessing. What does Isaac pronounce for Jacob? Look at 2 Cor. 5:21 to see how Christ blesses His people. What does that mean for the Christian response to persecution?

08/22/2024

Today's Bible reading: Job 8:1-11:20, 1 Cor. 15:1-28, Ps. 38:1-22, Prov. 21:28-29

08/21/2024

Today's family worship: Read Matthew 13:10-17. What does Jesus mean by “to the one who has, more will be given... but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away”? How does he more fully explain why he speaks to the crowds in parables? How does the quotation from Isaiah illustrate this point?
