On a fateful day last year, one woman ate 48 oysters on a first date. Since we posted that story, a lot of people flooded to our comments to proclaim they could meet or even beat her record. Frankly, we were inspired to see if you could put your money where your mouth is, which is why we are throwing our first-ever Slurp My Oyster Eating Contest on Saturday, June 22 from 12-4 p.m. 🎉

We'll have a specialty menu of oyster shooters, fried po'boys, $1 oysters, and mini martinis to get the party going. Now, let's talk about the competition.

For $25, you can enter the competition, which consists of four heats, each with ten participants. You'll have one minute to slurp as many oysters as possible, and the winner of each heat will move on to the finals where you will compete for free oysters for a year! 🏆

We're sure you know that not all oysters are the same, but what exactly are the differences between all of these varieties? Well, our oyster spotlight series is here to help! Learn about how two different oysters from the same region differ so dramatically.

🦪 Black Magic Oysters: These Canadian oysters have a smooth salinity with a pronounced vegetal finish and tend to be on the "brinier" side of the spectrum. They pair well with mezcal to highlight the flavor profile.

🦪 Malpeque Oysters: Also Canadian in origin, this bigger varietal gets their name from the Malpeque Bay up north and is a type of wild oyster harvested by traditional tonging. Though they come from the same region as Black Magic oysters, they are far apart in taste. A moderate brine with a meaty bite gives way to a quick and clean finish, perfect with a lager pairing. 🍺

We make ours by broiling Gulf oysters on the half-shell with butter, spinach, and parmesan for a decadent experience with each bite (or slurp, your choice). If you are looking to be transported back to the Gilded Age, look no further. 🍸
