The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau proudly announces the opening of the first Embassy of Knowledge of Alexandria Library outside Egypt at our bureau. This embassy is open for Egyptians and Americans of all ages to provide free access to digital repositories, archives, documentaries, research projects, and databases with millions of sources in addition to the various cultural events of the library.
ECEB invites you to celebrate that important event on 30 August at 6 pm to explore the content of the Embassy of Knowledge and learn how you can benefit from it. An additional entertaining program for Egyptian talents and refreshments will complement the event.

What does having the “Embassy of Knowledge” of Alexandria Library at the Egyptian Cultural Educational Bureau mean?

It means that through the bureau, you can access more than 450000 books online from the Digital Assets Repository. You’ll also have access to Modern Egypt Digital Archive, which provides data, documents, movies, and other materials about Egypt, its rulers, and its historic events during the 19th and 20th centuries. Moreover, you can learn all about Egypt by reading the 9 text volumes and 11 plate volumes of Description de l’Egypt that examined almost every aspect of the life of Egypt.

An Act of Congress wasn’t needed
to establish the first Embassy of Knowledge outside of Egypt: exclusive full digital access to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina from The Egyptian Cultural & Education Bureau in Washington, D.C.

I was there to offer a word of congratulations and my full support during the official opening ceremony at the Egyptian Cultural & Education Bureau, 1303 New Hampshire Ave NW. I represented Maryland Governor Wes Moore as Chairman of Maryland’s Middle Eastern American Affairs Commission (and the recent IFBA Chairman - International Friends of Bibliotheca Alexandrina - with 22 chapters globally).

From Egypt’s new capital, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mohamed Ayman Ashour and Alexandria Library Director Professor Ahmed Abdullah Zayed
signed the collaboration agreement.

Now everyone may access all of the Alexandria Library digital resources directly by visiting The Egyptian Cultural & Education Bureau.

تستعد مكتبة الإسكندرية غداً لإطلاق الدورة الـ 19 من معرضها الدولي للكتاب، في الفترة من 15 إلى 28 يوليو 2024، وذلك بالتعاون مع الهيئة المصرية العامة للكتاب، واتحاد الناشرين المصريين، واتحاد الناشرين العرب.

وقد صرح الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد زايد مدير مكتبة الإسكندرية أن المكتبة تحرص عند تنظيم المعرض على انتقاء أفضل دور النشر، كما تحرص على تواجد أحدث الإصدارات المصرية والعربية.

يضم المعرض هذا العام 77 دار نشر مصرية وعربية، كما خُصص جناحًا للطفل يضم أكتر من عشر دور نشر متخصصة في كتب الأطفال، وخُصص كذلك جناحًا لسور الأزبكية؛ والذي تعرض فيه الكتب القديمة والنادرة.

ويُقام على هامش المعرض برنامجا ثقافيا متكاملا يقدم وجبة ثقافية دسمة تشمل مجموعة كبيرة من الفعاليات تتجاوز المئة فعالية بين الندوات والمحاضرات، وورش العمل، والمؤتمرات، وتتنوع في محاورها بين: التاريخ والأدب، والذكاء الاصطناعي والصناعات الإبداعية، والدراما المصرية، والكتابة بكل فنونها، والإعلام، والشباب، والمرأة، والطفل، والعلاقات المصرية الثقافية، والنشر.

يركز البرنامج الثقافي هذا العام على عدد من المحاور وهي: الدراما المصرية، مصر بين التاريخ وبين الأدب، الذكاء الاصطناعي والمحتويات الإبداعية الصناعية، وجوائز ومبدعون، العلاقات المصرية الثقافية، ولقاءات مع شخصيات بارزة.

وأكد د. زايد على أن مكتبة الإسكندرية حريصة على مشاركة فعالة وقوية لمبدعي الإسكندرية في برنامجها الثقافي؛ بما لهم من تواجد مؤثر في الساحتين المصرية والعربية، وذلك من خلال مجموعة من الندوات التفاعلية تحت عنوان: "للإبداع السكندري وجوه كثيرة".

كما صرح الدكتور أحمد زايد عن تدشين جائزة مكتبة الإسكندرية للقراءة، والتي سيتم الإعلان عن كامل تفاصيلها في الجلسة الافتتاحية للمعرض.
