Our Story
Founded in 1989 at the University of Maryland, MSL has provided an invaluable education in civics and leadership to Maryland’s students for more than three decades.
At MSL events, campus leaders hone their speech, debate, and political skills in a simulation of the Maryland General Assembly, gaining real-world experience working within the legislative process. We network with other young activists and aspiring policy wonks, learning skills that prepare us for careers in public service.
In addition to our legislative work, we bring political and civic leaders from all parts of Maryland to our events to speak directly to us and answer our questions. Governors, Lieutenant Governors, Attorneys General, Comptrollers, leaders of the House and Senate, members of Congress, Mayors, Councilmembers, and countless other local, state, and federal officials have participated in MSL events over the years.
Our alumni have gone on to serve in the Maryland General Assembly, the Governor’s Office, work in Congress and the Executive Branch, across federal agencies, and lead successful careers in law, politics, journalism, civil service, academia, and much more.
