We are pleased to announce the 7th nonprofit participating in the 2024 GIVE Advisory Project: The Mental Health Emergency Fund, Inc.!

The Mental Health Emergency Fund increases access to mental health resources by reducing the financial barriers that impede marginalized individuals from accessing care. They do this through a stipend program for applicants in crisis who have less than $1000 in savings.

Lori's Hands builds mutually beneficial partnerships between community members with chronic illness and college students, fostering empathy, connection, and resilience. Students provide practical assistance to support community members' independence at home, and community members share their health and life experiences to support students' learning.

As the GIVE Fellowship transitions into its GIVE Advisory Projects, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Center for Leadership and Innovation at UMBC Training Centers for their ongoing support and partnership. Our facilitators include:

Marc Kolp, Director of the Center for Leadership and Innovation has been closely involved with Business Volunteers Maryland for many years and he currently serves on BVM’S Board of Directors. His exceptional facilitation skills ensure that our Fellows and the nonprofits participating in our GIVE Advisory Projects (GAP) navigate the human-centered design process successfully.

Jeremy Deighton, Program Manager of the Center for Leadership and Innovation, is a 2016 GIVE Alumni and currently chairs the GIVE Alumni Committee.

Claire Gautrois, Program Coordinator of the Center for Leadership and Innovation, graduated from the GIVE Fellowship last year and has since deepened her involvement with Business Volunteers Maryland.

Waverly Main Street's mission is to expand growth of the Waverly Commercial District through: Revitalization and economic development, Commercial building and streetscape improvements, and Promotions and entrepreneurial development. We are pleased to announce the 3rd nonprofit participating in the 2024 GIVE Advisory Project: South West Sports & Fitness Alliance.

South West Sports and Fitness Alliance exists to create a complete community-supported system and structure for Southwest Baltimore that supports comprehensive athletic, sports, and fitness opportunities for children, youth, and adults alike. Excitingly, SSFA is re-vitalizing the historic Poppleton Rec Center to create a vibrant community asset and safe space for youth and families to thrive.

A member of the inaugural Capacity Build Initiative in partnership with the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership, SSFA’s Executive Director Anthony Hudgins has been working with BVM for the past few months, and hosting a GIVE Advisory Project is the second phase of their strategic work. South Creek Community Development is a nonprofit organization that was formed by members of the historic Leadenhall Baptist Church to address its community needs including food security, youth programming, and more. Their mission is to restore purpose, productivity and to empower men, women, and children in the community by improving their overall health.

A member of the inaugural Capacity Build Initiative in partnership with the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership, SCCDC’s Executive Assistant to the Pastor, Rev. Renee Hammock, has been working with BVM for the past few months, and hosting a GIVE Advisory Project is the second phase of their strategic work. Yesterday, Business Volunteers hosted an incredible pro bono consulting session with the help of South Baltimore Gateway Partnership in our Capacity Build Initiative (CBI)! 13 passionate volunteers donated valuable time to four amazing nonprofits, working through challenges that ranged from rebranding to increasing board engagement.
