Please read the entire post— this is not Political Banter, it is simply a truthful observation of what is currently happening in District

The current 7th District Councilman is Indifferent to Attacks on Black Female Constituents. His silence is deafening.

Several leading Black female community advocates have been subjected to harassment, threats and retaliation because of their advocacy for their communities on biking lanes and infrastructure issues. One senior Black female was slandered by Bikemore Interim President Jed Weeks who subjected her home to surveillance, resulting in harassment and intimidation. The 7th district councilman James Torrence ignored her request that he intervene on this issue as well as the Mayor who stated that he was not a city employee.

In another instance, James Torrence threatened a prominent community leader when she asked him to provide written verification ensuring that no bike lanes would be placed anywhere on Gwynns Falls. He responded with a reported threat stating that he was "taking his gloves off with her."

The final incident occurred at Thursday's city council meeting on bike infrastructure. During that meeting, Isaac Leal, white male govt employee who testified in support of bike infrastructure, cursed at the community leader following her testimony, calling her a " Black bit@h.." and brandishing an unknown item with a point at her.

A city official, believed to be on the Mayor's staff, escorted the offender to safety, bypassing security, instead of detaining him for questioning by the police. When the victim asked the 7th district councilman why he didn't intervene, he stated it wasn't his problem, the incident was between the victim and the perpetrator.

Both Jed Weeks and Isaac Leal need to be banned from city hall and city meetings. As for James Torrence, if you cannot rely on your city council representative to defend you amid attacks, then he must be relieved of any possibility of serving a second term. The same applies to the Mayor. It appears that funding from Bike advocates trump civility and respect for our Black women.

Vote wisely - vote differently in 2024.
